Maintenance Technician - Full-Time- Parks and Recreation - City of New Albany

About the Job
To carry out works required to repair, maintain, and improve the buildings and facilities within the designated areas of Parks and Recreation in order to ensure that we provide an excellent customer experience at all times. This position is also responsible for daily maintenance and setup operations at Anderson Ballpark, Billy Herman Ballpark, and maintaining the fountains at the Bicentennial Park, with some duties in other parks as assigned.
DUTIES
- Responsible for carrying out both the short-term and long-term park and maintenance operations including weekly work operations, handling materials and supplies, cleaning facilities, and adhering to safety procedures.
- Keep ballparks neat and clean.
- Prep parks for weekend ball tournaments and manage shelter rentals that overlap on such weekends.
- If more than one tournament or event, Ball Field Specialist will attend to the priority venue and other staff members will assist as needed to prepare additional parks.
- Expected to work proactively to ensure the overall appearance and physical attributes of the park are efficiently intact at all times for example, regular light and scoreboard checks, fence and gate checks, dugout and bleacher checks, restroom and concessions checks.
- Assist with the purchase of inventory of materials and supplies utilized on job sites.
- Attend training sessions, staff meetings, and seminars are requested.
- Ability to operate and maintain park equipment and specialty equipment as well as operate single commercial vehicles over 2,000 pounds.
- Safely use and properly maintain small power and hand tools as well as all other equipment and tools.
- Knowledge of turf, grounds, landscaping design, buildings, preparation of chemical use and clean up as well as pesticide application practices.
- Knowledge of the safe operation practice and maintenance of various tools, turf equipment, and motor vehicles.
- Knowledge of semi-skilled maintenance and safety procedures of public facilities.
- Some knowledge of plumbing, masonry, electrical, painting, and HVAC as well as light construction and remodeling.
- Determines appropriate action beyond guidelines; reports and corrects potentially unsafe conditions; uses equipment and materials properly.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Environment and Conditions:
- This position requires working in both an internal and external environment.
- Significant amount of time will be spent working outdoors and in inclement weather (within reason and safety) to include: hot, humid, cold, rain, ice, and snow.
- This position requires a flexible work schedule; night and/or weekends may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Experience and Training:
- Graduation from high school or G.E.D equivalent required.
- Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
- A pleasant, friendly, and outgoing demeanor.
- Willingness to take on additional tasks as assigned.
- Must have a valid driver's license and good driving record.
- Familiar with basic OSHA stands and safety practices.
- Experience in parks and recreation and/or maintenance certification preferred.
