About the Job
In keeping with the Mission Statement and Principles of Covenant House, maintains the assigned facility/area in a safe, sanitary manner.
Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs maintenance of all building equipment and mechanical systems using schematics, drawings, and electrical diagrams.
- Performs upkeep and repair of agency equipment through the completion of weekly preventative maintenance, such as dismantling, examining, and replacing defective parts, as necessary.
- Performs troubleshooting and repairs of all general electrical, mechanical, and plumbing repairs with little supervision.
- Requests or purchases materials needed to complete repairs, alterations, or new construction, and completes the necessary reports and material usage list.
- Maintains agency vehicles, including check-in and check-out.
- Provides on-call assistance for after-hour emergencies and weekend call-outs.
- Operates within OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act) standards and company safety policies.
- Assists with laundry drop-off and pickup, when assigned by supervisor.
- Assists in preparing rooms for meetings and various other functions, when assigned by supervisor.
- Assists with trash and debris removal, when assigned by supervisor.
- Responsible for safely transporting our youth to appointments.
- Must assist with in-kind donations; including pick-up, drop-off, and distribution.
- Able to work special events for set-up, errands, and closures.
- Assist program staff with the movement of supplies from campus location to short or long-term storage.
- Performs any other duties deemed necessary by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
- Two years experience as a maintenance worker and one year experience in HVAC and refrigeration.
- Must have EPA certification.
- Skilled in electrical, mechanical, plumbing, and drywall repairs, and assisted with minor construction projects.
- Eligible to obtain a Low-Pressure Boiler Operator License within 90 days of employment.
- Must be able to move or lift heavy objects in excess of 50 lbs.
- Physical stamina to carry out job responsibilities, including working outdoors in hot and cold conditions.
- Must be dependable, have a good driving record, and be able to report to work in a timely manner.
- Must have a valid Texas driver’s license, with a driving record acceptable to the agency’s insurance carrier.
Working Conditions:
Ability to walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to grasp, push, and pull objects such as files, and file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax, and telephone. Ability to lift to 25 lbs. Ability to drive to or access transportation to required off-site events, meetings, and training.

Covenant House Texas (CHT) opened its doors in 1983 to provide shelter for homeless, abused and abandoned youth ages 18 – 24. After more than 35 years of service, CHT offers an extensive continuum of care model for homeless youth including mental health and substance abuse counseling, educational and vocational training, transitional and permanent living programs, street outreach and prevention, pastoral ministry and parenting classes in addition to providing the basic necessities of food, clothing, medical care and safe shelter from the streets for youth in crisis.
