Shift: 8:00am to 4:00pm or 9:00am -5:00pm, rotating on-call weekend and evening schedules for emergency responses.
Status: Full Time - Exempt
REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Maintenance Technician will be required to conduct routine inspections of Self, Inc. facilities, and equipment. As the Maintenance Technician, you will be required to inspect different equipment and perform any basic repairs or preventative maintenance when needed.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for performing general facility maintenance including plumbing, electrical, carpentry, landscaping, etc. as directed by the Facilities Manager, so that the facility is well-maintained and normal operations are not adversely affected.
- Required to follow a schedule of routine maintenance of major systems including, but not limited to plumbing, electrical, heating, and cooling systems when tasks are assigned by the Facilities Manager.
- Maintain security and control of all tools to ensure the safety and security of the facility environment.
- Required to utilize the maintenance work order system to report and describe work performed and to advise the Facilities Manager of special issues/circumstances that may affect the resolution of the problem.
- Assess assigned maintenance repair work to verify the reported scope of work and determine the approximate time required to complete the work. Communicate the results of the assessment promptly to the Facilities Manager and update the Facilities Manager about the repair status on a schedule established by the Facilities Manager.
- Perform maintenance repair work assigned by the Facilities Manager within the established timeframe.
- When work is performed by outside vendors, provide support as directed by the Facilities Manager. Support may include, but will not be limited to, providing access to the repair area, providing historical information, and facilitating communication with the Facilities Manager.
- Must be willing to work on a rotating “on–call’ schedule for emergency repairs after hours and weekends.
- Conduct routine facility inspections to ensure health, safety local, and state code compliance. Included are the inspection of fire alarm systems, smoke detectors, carbon monoxide detectors, and fire extinguishers, and report all inspection outcomes in writing to the Facilities Manager.
- Be aware of and convey residents’ communications and behavior to appropriate staff so that preventive measures can be taken to maintain the health, safety, and security of the facility, residents, and staff.
- Work with and under the supervision of the Facilities Manager to ensure that supplies, tools, and equipment necessary for basic repairs are stocked and available for use. Activities include but are not limited to, utilizing and maintaining inventory control systems, picking up and delivering supplies, and identifying special supply and equipment needs.
- Utilize vehicles assigned solely for work assignments and comply with agency and maintenance unit rules governing routine vehicle maintenance and fuel.
- Communicate with managers, employees, and administration in a professional manner to maintain a positive working relationship.
- Participate in staff meetings by sharing observations and recommendations regarding the facility, residents, and staff relations to identify and resolve problems and function as a unified team.
- Complete employer-provided mandatory in-service training to meet the requirements for continued professional development.
- Maintain confidentiality obtained through job duties regarding employees, vendors, residents, outside agencies, etc., so that sensitive information is only given on a “need to know” basis.
- Perform related work as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with a minimum of two (2) years training and/or experience in a range of major system repairs; including, but not limited to heating, cooling, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and general construction or an equivalent combination of training and experience. (Required).
- Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of constituencies at all levels, and react quickly and appropriately in an emergency.
- Must be able to frequently walk, stand, crawl, climb, bend, stoop, and lift 25 pounds or more.
- Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record.
- Criminal Background clearance will be required.
