Job Description
Operate a mammography unit to produce images of the breasts for diagnostic purposes under direction of a physician. They explain the procedure to patients, position and immobilize the patient’s breast in unit, and observe the scanning process. This involves monitoring the video display of the area being scanned and adjusting the density or contrast to improve picture quality. Mammography technologists then review and evaluate the film or image recording plate to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
The Mammography Technologist, under the direction of the Radiologist and Radiology Director, performs all Mammography procedures in accordance with ACR, TDH, MQSA, state regulations, and departmental policies. Possesses highly technical skills to operate sophisticated equipment for the above mentioned examinations. Responsible for QA maintenance, regulatory compliance, survey preparations, and competencies. The Technologist must exhibit expertise in patient care based on needs appropriate for all patient demographics. Other duties as deemed necessary.
Education: Graduate of an approved, accredited A.R.R.T. program. Documented mammography training.
Experience: One year of diagnostic radiology experience is preferred, and at least one year mammography experience is required, proving initiative and sound judgment required for utilizing and maintaining established guidelines of care by the MQSA.
Licenses/Certificates:
• Current American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT).
• Mammography certification required (ARRT-M)
• Licensed as a radiologic technologist by the SCRQSA
• CPR certification required.
