Position Summary:
The Mammography/Rad Tech performs age specific mammography procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the breast.
Duties/Responsibilities:
• Reviews physician orders, checking for special instructions, consults with the radiologist when necessary, greets and identifies the patient and explains the procedure to the patient and/or family member. Provides additional patient education as appropriate.
• Performs appropriate mammography procedure which requires demonstration of correct anatomy through proper patient positioning, technique selection, application of immobilization and radiation protection devices as appropriate and according to department policy and procedure.
• Performs quality control procedures on mammography equipment, performs and documents corrective action when appropriate and reports findings to supervisor. Patient procedures are not performed until quality control is within acceptable limits (or otherwise instructed by supervisor and/or radiologist).
• Maintains adequate inventory of supplies for assigned work station, equipment maintenance, and quality control which includes visual safety inspections, warm-up procedures, and quality control activities.
• Updates patient history, records unusual conditions, documents examination time, and verifies accuracy of procedures to be billed.
• Maintains professional association with professional organizations, attends in-service education and departmental meetings and actively participates in quality improvement activities.
• Performs office procedures as necessary/requested.
• Performs clerical procedures as necessary and/or requested. (See Office Assistant III competency sheet.).
• Utilizes department/hospital communication equipment and/or procedures.
• Provides instruction for students, radiologic technologists, and others as required or requested.
Education:
Completion of approved course in Radiologic Technology and approved course in Mammography. On-the-Job training may be provided
Experience:
None required. Previous radiologic experience preferred
Licensure/Certification:
Current registry/or registry pending with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, RT(R) and/or RT(M), current radiation operator’s certification (general or temporary license) issued by the Commonwealth of Kentucky is required. CPR required within thirty days of hire
