Position Summary: Performs complex tasks associated with mammography/breast biopsy/other breast imaging procedures by applying proper ionizing radiation coupled with accurate positioning, compression, and processing techniques to obtain high-quality diagnostic images for interpretation by radiologist. The Mammography Tech is responsible for maintain a safe Breast Center environment at all times.

Responsibilities:- Performs all duties of Mammography Radiology Technologist. Performs routine screening/diagnostic/ minimally invasive breast imaging procedures through technical expertise in equipment use, positioning and procedure protocols. Follows the Joint Commission procedures regarding medication preparation/usage on patient for minimally invasive breast procedures. Follow policy regarding time out prior to minimally invasive procedures being performed. Obtains and documents pertinent clinical information and technical findings for review by physician for order clarification and follow-through. Follows established processes for supply charging, stock maintenance and vendor ordering. Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of an Accredited Breast Center and related equipment to produce high quality Breast Imaging. Selects appropriate associated equipment/data manipulation to achieve desired results with factors influencing data acquisition. Technically proficient in the operation and quality control aspects of scanning and image recording equipment specific to the assigned work area. Displays independent work skills by capably taking physician orders to completion to include correct patient transport, required clerical skills, physician defined scanning parameters, acquisition, filming and physician interpretation. Practices aseptic/sterile technique and applies universal precautions as appropriate. Applies appropriate infection prevention techniques and processes.
- Identifies and screens patient. Obtains patient history, completes and verifies accurate consents, informed consent and/or permits as needed. Provide patient instructions/education to obtain desired results, gain cooperation and minimize anxiety during exams. Position patients for mammography/breast biopsies/other breast imaging using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with regulations while applying principles of ALARA to minimize risk to patient, self and others. Position patient and equipment to best demonstrate the anatomic area of interest, respecting the patient’s ability, safety and comfort. Provide for psychological and physical needs of patients for Breast procedures. Proficient in patient assessment and monitoring.
- Proficient in required data entry, record maintenance and statistical data. Technically proficient in the operation and quality control aspects of scanning and image recording equipment specific to the assigned work area. Maintains patient’s confidential records, reports and files, following established HIPAA guidelines.
- Provides patients and families with procedural explanation or written documentation of procedure. Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians and other customer needs. Coordinates the smooth transition of patients throughout the hospital and other campus locations.
- Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.
- Stays current in Basic Life Support (BLS) and performs BLS as needed.
- Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested.

Minimum Education:
None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority.
Minimum Experience:
Must be registered ARRT (R). Excellent patient care/customer service skills. Team player and have the ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment.
Licensure Requirement:
Must have and maintain ARRT (R) and within 6 months ARRT (M). State licensure in accordance with Tennessee guidelines.
