Job Summary:
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a dedicated and skilled Mammography Technologist I to join our partner hospital in Pottstown, PA. In this role, you will be responsible for performing both screening and diagnostic mammograms using ionizing radiation to capture high-quality images according to established protocols. You will demonstrate a deep understanding of breast anatomy, pathology, and medical terminology, ensuring accurate breast positioning and exposure techniques while adhering to radiation safety standards.
The ideal candidate will be compassionate and detail-oriented, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team to provide optimal patient care and diagnostic information. The Mammography Technologist will also actively participate in quality improvement processes and comply with all state and federal regulations governing mammography.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer ionizing radiation to perform screening and diagnostic mammograms according to established protocols.
- Ensure a high degree of accuracy in breast positioning, exposure techniques, and evaluation of imaging parameters to provide quality patient care.
- Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of breast anatomy, physiology, pathology, and medical terminology as they relate to mammography procedures.
- Apply independent professional judgment and critical thinking skills to obtain diagnostic images and ensure that the highest standards of patient care are met.
- Collaborate with MQSA-qualified interpreting physicians or follow institutional policies to determine whether to continue or discontinue exams as needed.
- Remain sensitive to the physical, cultural, and emotional needs of the patient, ensuring clear communication, proper patient monitoring, and compassionate care throughout the imaging process.
- Maintain and follow radiation protection and safety protocols to ensure patient and staff safety.
- Stay current with quality control and quality assurance requirements, maintaining compliance with both state and federal regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, continually evaluating and improving professional performance.
- Maintain thorough knowledge of regulatory standards, ensuring compliance with state and federal requirements for mammography services.
- Provide patient education, addressing any questions or concerns related to the mammography procedure.
Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
- Completion of a Post High School Diploma Program in Radiologic Technology (Required)
Experience:
- Relevant experience in performing mammograms and other imaging procedures (Preferred)
Certification and Licensure:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification (Required)
- Certification as a Registered Technologist RT(R) or Registered Technologist in Mammography RT(R)(M) (Required)
