About the Job
As the Mammography Technologist, you will provide radiological care to patients undergoing screening and diagnostic mammography examination. Ensures the department consistently produces high quality mammographic exams and procedures to aid in medical diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Works closely with Physicians and RNs to ensure the department operates within compliance regulations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all routine mammograms, demonstrating the anatomy under investigation through proper patient positioning and technique selection, according to department policy and procedure.
- Receives consultation request, checking for special instructions from the requesting physician, consults with the radiologist as necessary.
- Pleasantly greet patients, confirming their identification and introducing yourself.
- Explains the examination procedure completely to the patient and their family if present.
- Completes history form with accuracy on all patients.
- Evaluates every film for technical quality, proper positioning, patient identification, stamp and right and left markers.
- Updates patient exam file, records unusual conditions or limitations, documents film usage. Performs other paperwork as applicable.
- Demonstrates the knowledge and special skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in mammography (adult and geriatric).
- Assists with retrieving and coordinating films needed for biopsy procedures.
- Assists with needle localization and stereotactic procedures always practicing aseptic techniques.
- Telephone or fax results when requested with no more than two omissions annually.
- In the absence of film room staff, prepare the patients' jacket with the proper bar code labels and, if necessary, perform loaning procedures.
- Receives and / or initiates no more than five two minute phone calls per week.
- Promotes a professional image by adhering to the established dress code.
- Demonstrates cost-effectiveness in the use of supplies and equipment by minimal wastage of supplies. Notifies supervisor when supplies are at low levels.
Required:
- A Massachusetts Mammography license and ARRT is required.
- Proficiency in all areas of mammography and quality assurance testing of mammographic equipment.
