Scope of Job
Responsible for performing routine to complex quality breast images following State and Federal Regulations.
Description of Duties
+ Performs patient studies utilizing approved protocols/procedures and brings questions forward before imaging patients.
+ Communicates professionally, effectively and in a timely manner with all patient care providers, patients and guests.
+ Ensures that patient studies are reviewed for accuracy, coded and charged appropriately.
+ Demonstrates skills required to successfully complete clinical competencies and can function independently without direct supervision.
+ Enters data into systems (i.e. PACS , equipment systems, electronic medical records and other computer systems.
+ Demonstrates the ability to address and handle patient care concerns, notifies the radiologist if and when gross pathological findings are discovered.
+ Practices responsible use of communication tools (status board, paging systems, telephones, email, fax, etc.).
+ Ensures error rates are minimized.
+ Maintains in-depth knowledge of all routine section-specific protocols/procedures.
+ Maintains Quality Control/Quality Assurance following Mammography Quality Standards Act ( MQSA ) and American College of Radiology ( ACR ), Federal Drug Administration ( FDA ), and Texas Department of Health Services ( TDHS ) standards and regulations. Assures that all documentation is accurately recorded and kept in an organized manner susceptible to instant inspection if needed.
+ Maintains continuing education and experience requirements following MQSA , ACR , FDA , and TDHS standards and regulations.
+ Uploads images/ CAD to PACS system and assigns to reading radiologist.
+ Administers contrast agents and utilizes sterile or aseptic techniques where applicable. Reviews medications and allergies. Follows the five rights of drug administration.
+ Ensures work areas and equipment are safe, clean, and organized and appropriate supplies are available for the procedures and checklists are completed (including emergency supplies). Restocks supplies and forms as needed.
+ Performs Bone Density DXA procedures.
+ Performs other duties as assigned.

General supervision from assigned supervisor.

Direct supervision of assigned staff.
Required Education
Graduate of an accredited Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology ( JRCERT ) program.

Licenses/Certifications
Registry in Radiography by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists ( ARRT )®. Must have a Medical Radiologic Technologist ( MRT ) certification from the Texas Medical Board. Advanced Registry in Mammography ( ARRT ) (M) within 180 days of entry into the job. Basic Life Support ( BLS ) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation ( CPR ) certification.
Required Experience
Two (2) years of experience as a qualified Mammography Technologist. Must meet MQSA requirements and must be able to meet initial and continuing education requirements.

Equipment
Use of standard office equipment. X-ray generator, image detector, compression paddles.
Working Conditions
Needs to be able to successfully perform all required duties. Office/healthcare environment; some travel, weekend work, and irregular shifts may be required. Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. UTRGV is a distributed institution, which may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
