A Brief Summary of This Position:
The Manager of Advanced Manufacturing is accountable for equipment standardization across the footprint. Activities include design, analysis, and development of best-in-class equipment standardization and other projects as assigned. Innovation activities include monitoring current technology trends and the emergence of new technologies related and adjacent to current production processes. The role involves managing a multi-functional team of engineers that have dotted line reporting and working with site leadership, other engineering teams, and the Operational Excellence team. You are accountable for the quality of equipment standardization best practices. You will also work in close coordination with other teams to ensure the cross-utilization of technologies and expertise developed in each group.
You will provide leadership, and technical direction for ensuring solutions are being researched and implemented. The Manager of Advance Manufacturing will lead the effort to find improved standardized methods in production and incorporating these solutions from engineering design through manufacturing implementation. You will help solve complex manufacturing issues with innovative/standardized solutions.
You will manage manufacturing technologies and will be in touch with the latest technologies via trade shows, collaborations, periodicals, and other research for inclusion in the Valmont technology roadmap. Will manage projects or project teams regarding equipment standardization, schedule, budget, performance, and objectives. You will oversee the implementation and management of projects to improve manufacturing operations. These projects will reduce manufacturing costs and transform how products are manufactured within our industry. You will need to communicate with all levels of the Valmont organization, customers, and suppliers. You will also have a broad knowledge of Valmont standards, departmental and company goals, and procedures.
Essential Functions:
- You will report to the Senior Director AMET, you will not have direct
- You must be willing to travel up to 50% (internationally/domestically), including overnight stays
- You will have a flexible work schedule
- Will provide strategic direction to the standardization of equipment.
- You will stay informed of the latest technologies through trade shows, collaborations, periodicals, and research
- Ensure the equipment vision is aligned with the roadmap and with the Global Operations strategy
- Lead the effort to standardize specific equipment/vendors/technologies across the organization
- Lead manufacturing and process improvement projects in the resolution of product problems (i.e., safety hazards / high-risk ergonomic areas, machine breakdowns, capacity constraints, quality, material handling, and processes)
- Lead direct and indirect multi-site teams
- Analyze operating costs, labor, material, and variable costs to aid in identifying cost reduction opportunities across the footprint
- Develop strategic plans regarding the use of new technology to transform our processes across the footprint
- Oversee company evolution, identifying new applications for implementing solutions, that transform the operational capabilities of the business
- Oversee vendor engagements surrounding projects
Other Important Details about the Role:
- Manage the development of a global (multi-site) team
- for voice-of-the-customer (internal and external) based on equipment requirements
- Ensure global standards are upheld (design, quality, safety)
Required Qualifications of Every Candidate:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with 7+ years of experience in manufacturing and engineering environments
- Management experience required – operations leadership of functional assets
- Experience with Lean Methodologies required. Experience with different lean tools and lean systems thinker
- Construction / Machinery Project Management experience leading a project manager(s) or project team leader
- Advanced skills in using Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook
Highly Qualified Candidates Will Also Possess These Qualifications:
- MBA or MS Technical degree
- Knowledge of Lean tools and principles
- Knowledge of AISC, ISO, or AWS D1.1 requirements
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Lean or 6 Sigma Certification (Green Belt, Black Belt, DFSS)
Working Environment and Physical Efforts:
Work is typically performed in a plant or maintenance shop setting. You are required to regularly walk, stand, sit, and talk and listen on the phone and in personal conversations or meetings. The environment is fast-paced and demanding most of the time. Travel, both domestic and international is a requirement for this position. You are frequently required to use your hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms while working in the office with multiple files and forms and while working on the computer. You are occasionally required to move about the office and manufacturing plant. You must wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel toe, metatarsal boots, safety glasses, and a high-visibility vest. You will be asked to use proper ergonomic safeguards such as monitor height and positions, keyboard location and height and proper wrist rests. You must occasionally lift or move up to 20 pounds in working with boxes, parts, large files, binders, and computer equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception. We may ask you to walk, stand, lift, stoop, bend, climb stairs, and kneel in rare instances.
