Responsibilities The Manager, Data Governance is a leader responsible for establishing and maintaining a Data Governance framework, including strategic, operational and change management processes. This role is responsible for ensuring data dictionary management, data policy development, data quality management, data handling and privacy compliance. The Manager, Data Governance will promote a culture of data governance and data-driven decision-making within the organization, leading the Data Governance Council and collaborating with various stakeholders. JOB ACTIVITIES/DUTIES Stakeholder Collaboration: Lead Data Governance Council and collaborate with cross-functional teams to align data governance initiatives with organizational goals and priorities. Change Management: Drive data governance adoption through effective communication, training, and change management initiatives. Develop and Implement Data Governance Framework: Establish and maintain a comprehensive data governance framework, including policies, procedures, and standards to ensure the accuracy and integrity of data. Data Quality Management: Enhance and oversee data quality throughout the organization by applying metrics, performing audits, and taking corrective steps as needed. Data Policy Formulation: Develop and enforce data policies to ensure data is managed and used in accordance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Data Cataloging and Metadata Management: Oversee the implementation and maintenance of a data catalog and metadata management system to enhance data discovery and usability. Create and maintain data inventories, catalogs, repositories, classifications, and corresponding ownership in collaboration with product, data, and legal teams Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to educate employees on data, data governance, data management practices, and their roles and responsibilities. Data Stewardship: Coordinate with data stewards to ensure effective data management and address data quality issues promptly. Performance Monitoring: Track and report on the effectiveness of data governance initiatives and make recommendations for continuous improvement. Issue Resolution: Address and resolve data governance-related issues and conflicts in a timely and effective manner. Compliance and Risk Management: Ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant laws. Identify and mitigate data-related risks. Effectively communicate project plans, roadmaps and status, priorities with stakeholders and teammates in a timely manner. Provide guidance, feedback, training, development and support to direct reports and ensure the quality and accuracy of their work. Stay updated on the latest developments and trends in data governance and related fields. Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or other related degrees. Experience : 7+ years of direct work experience, with at least 3 years of direct experience relating to creation and execution of formal data governance and/or data management programs and Metadata Management Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality management, and data protection regulations. Strong experience in metadata management, knowledge of data standards, data cataloging, tagging, lineage and delivering operational data products in flexible data management frameworks Proven track record of understanding business challenges and strategies, connecting those to data and capabilities, recognize and diagnose data quality issues Strong working knowledge of current and upcoming data governance, data management, data lifecycle management and data product techniques and trends, with a point of view on the evolving concepts and best practices Excellent analytical, problem-solving and project management skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and competing priorities, and follow-through on committed deliverables using team-based project management with both Agile and Waterfall approaches to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality work. Meticulous attention to detail to ensure data accuracy and integrity. Proactive mindset with the ability to identify potential data issues and take preventive measures. Demonstrated learning agility, ability to make decisions quickly and with the highest level of integrity Ability to adapt to changing business needs and evolving data governance requirements. Experience with Stibo Systems (Master Data Management) and Data.World (Data Catalog) a plus. Relevant certifications in data governance or data management (e.g., DGSP, CDMP) are a plus.
