Job Summary
This is a senior level position within the Electrical Controls Design and Engineering group within the Electric T&D-Projects & Construction organization, utilizing a broad knowledge of electrical utility experience, engineering principles and practices acquired through progressive experience and education. Requires a strong technical background in protection and controls engineering and design to develop and implement designs for existing and new transmission and distribution projects. At least 12 years of electrical protection and controls (P&C) design engineering experience working for an electrical utility. MS in Electrical Engineering is a requirement, PE license is a plus.
Job Responsibilities
Direct a group of protection and controls (P&C) engineering and design professionals in a variety of complex high voltage projects ranging from 4kV-500kV for switching stations and substations as well as overhead and underground power systems for new and existing stations and customer substations.
Review of the P&C related drawings and specifications of HV equipment such as gas insulated switchgears (GIS), HV breakers, transformers, phase angle regulators, reactors, capacitor banks, and the P&C design portion of the projects for new or modified switching stations and substations, ESOC, SCADA, Fiber Optics, metering, alarms, etc.
Able to manage and oversee internal resources and contractors to be able to provide detailed P&C designs for complex protection and controls projects, including all the required construction documentation, and material lists and issuing them to strategic customers, including all four Electric Delivery operating divisions and Delivery Projects and Construction.
Provide guidance and detailed reviews of control and protection designs from other A&E firms. Work with A&E firms in order to provide support and to make sure they adhere to PSE&G standards and quality requirements.
Maintain, check, and further develop the PSE&G P&C design manual and revise or create new standards for all the P&C design applications in collaboration with Asset Management experts.
Provide leadership in P&C design for emergency projects caused by equipment failures including providing full technical and design support and equipment replacement in coordination with Asset Management, System Protection, Transmission Planning, SCADA, etc.
Provide leadership in timely developing of post construction as built packages, working on field marked prints packages on the changes identified in the Divisions.
Provide field support services during construction and construction outages as required and in support of aggressive project schedules and complicated contingency designs.
Provide workforce planning and development, including hiring and formulation of group strategies and goals. Provide assistance and direction on complex technical issues. Obtain and manage external resources to augment the Design Team to ensure project work is delivered on time and on budget.
Develop and evaluate subordinates includin providing feedback, reviewing performance, preparing appraisals and assisting subordinates in planning developmental and corrective programs. Manage internal interfaces and enhance group effectiveness by resolving disputes and remove roadblocks. Represent the Company on the meetings with the A&Es working for PSE&G, and other departments in PSE&G. Maintain and apply working knowledge of PSEG standards for business controls and meet management’s expectations for effective internal business controls.
Job Specific Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering.
- Demonstrated Supervisory Experience. Extensive experience (10+ years) in Electrical Engineering preferably in the P&C design engineering for switching stations and substations or project engineering including management, technical support; standards & methods.
- Must be able to provide support during system and storm emergencies or equipment failures.
- Ability to work extra hours on weekdays and weekends as might be needed to meet project schedules.
- Interface with other technical and project disciplines to support project schedules and milestones.
- Coordinate as required with system planners, designers, asset experts, project managers, vendors, and construction and operation personnel.
- Clear and concise writing and verbal communications skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory driving record
Desired:
- MS in Electrical Engineering
- New Jersey Professional Engineer’s License.
