PURPOSE AND SCOPE:
The Manager of Electrical Engineering is a functional and technical leader in the FMCNA-NxStage Research and Development group. This position is involved in every aspect of electrical design, test, and performance for new platforms and improvements and extensions to existing products, throughout the product life cycle, including influencing product architecture. The Manager of EE also develops the capabilities of the Electrical Engineering team by building the skills of individuals on the team, bringing on talented new team members, and planning for the future of the EE group. Our products are complex systems requiring excellent collaboration across project teams and with counterparts in other departments.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead Electrical design and development activities required for both new platform and product improvement / extension projects.
- Direct Electrical Engineering work, often indirectly through management of project lead engineers.
- Manage all phases of electrical development life cycle including scheduling of resources, development of design specifications from business requirements, cost estimation, standards, release management, hardware change management and process compliance.
- Determine how to apply EE skill sets and capabilities across project priorities and coordinate work of the EE team across projects.
- Develop state-of-the-art electrical architecture in close coordination with Software, Systems, and Mechanical leads.
- Mentor the Electrical Engineering team in the adoption and use of best practices in circuit design, component selection, and test effectiveness.
- Investigate new technologies, projects, approaches, and system concepts and make informed recommendations.
- Align design, development, and test processes across projects and platforms as applicable.

- Respond to project changes and challenges rapidly and in alignment with colleagues.

SUPERVISION:
Responsible for the direct supervision of various levels of Electrical Engineering staff.
EDUCATION AND REQUIRED CREDENTIALS:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field; Advanced Degree preferred or an equivalent combination of education and experience
EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- 10+ years’ experience in medical device design and development, including substantial experience leading and managing the electrical team.
- 5+ years’ experience of management experience in leading and building an electrical engineering team.
- Demonstrated experience bringing complex electronic devices to market.
- Expert knowledge and experience in digital, analog, power, and embedded circuit design.
- Working knowledge of a variety of sensors and actuators.
- Track record of implementing state-of-the-art technology in regulated product fields.
- In-depth knowledge of and experience with medical device development across the entire product development lifecycle from concept to commercialization.
- Expert knowledge of medical device safety and EMC compliance (IEC 60601, CE, etc.), ideally for Class II/III medical devices.
- Ability to provide hands-on support when needed while managing a growing organization.
- Excellent communication skills with all levels of the organization.
- Experience in troubleshooting, root cause investigation, and reliability improvement.
- Strong management skills with the ability to lead cohesive and productive teams.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of management through diplomacy and tact.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
