Located within the Office of College and Career Success (OCCS), the mission of the Office of Social Emotional Learning (OSEL) is to partner with schools and networks to establish and sustain supportive-learning communities founded on caring relationships and multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) for students’ social, emotional, and behavioral needs. OSEL supports training, coaching, and implementation of research-based strategies to foster positive school and classroom climate development, trauma-informed practices, restorative approaches to discipline, social and emotional skills instruction, and targeted social, emotional, and behavioral interventions.
Job Summary:
The Manager, Healing-Centered Supports will be charged with supporting in development and implementing strategies to deepen the impact of CPS Healing-Centered Project and aligned initiatives. The Manager, Healing-Centered Supports will assist in coordination and communication within the Office of Social Emotional Learning, with partner CPS departments as well as community partners in ensuring quality implementation of district-wide SEL strategies. In partnership with colleagues, leaders and teams across OSEL and OCCS, the Manager, Healing-Centered Supports will lead the implementation of infrastructure changes needed for sustainability and targeted universalism concepts around the Healing-Centered Project. The Manager, Healing-Centered Supports will support the Director of Healing-Centered Supports to translate the healing-centered framework and aligned initiatives, research-based strategies, resources, tools, and best practices into sustained and robust trauma-engaged implementation in schools.
The Manager, Healing-Centered Supports will directly support the Director of Healing-Centered Supports in realizing the vision, and commitment stated in the Healing-Centered Framework through the creation, implementation, and evaluation of the Healing-Centered Roadmap. This position will report to the Director of Healing-Centered Supports and will lead a team of professionals supporting this work.
TheManager, Healing-Centered Supports role is a grant-funded position from December 31, 2022 to December 30, 2026.
The Manager,Healing-Centered Supportswill be held accountable for the following responsibilities:
- Operationalize systems change in order to support and maximize the implementation and impact of the following grants and projects, and other grants as awarded and ensure requirements of infrastructure improvements aligned to the framework are met:
- SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) - Project AWARE (Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) Grant
- SAMHSA (Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration) - TISS (School-Based Trauma-Informed Support Services) Grant
- IL AWARE (Illinois Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education) Grant
- Cities Mentor Project
- Teams, Interventions, Evaluation and Resources for Supportive Schools (TIERSS) Grant
- SEL (Social-Emotional Learning) Hubs Model
- REACH (Resilience Education to Advance Community Healing) Program
- Support integration and alignment efforts related to strategic planning including progress monitoring, evaluation and reporting for the Healing-Centered Roadmap within the Office of Social Emotional Learning and partnering offices.
- Work with designated leads across all CPS offices to equip them with knowledge and resources to successfully implement aligned department initiatives within the Healing-Centered Framework and Healing-Center Roadmap.
- In partnership with the OSEL Data Strategist and Healing-Centered Supports Team, develop systems enhancements for the standardization of data collection, analysis, reporting, and programmatic changes related to investment strategies within the Healing-Centered Roadmap in order to enhance data tracking and cadence of supports to best inform practices, improve programming and maximize impact.
- Oversee the integration Resilience Education to Advance Community Healing (REACH) programming, informing of Resilience Supportive Schools Illinois (RSSI) indicators, and enhancement of sustainable infrastructures for tiered professional learning models.
- Support the Director of Healing-Centered Supports with the implementation of vendor invoicing, project plans, grant budgeting, and grant development.
- Develop and maintain a system for school-based supplemental payments related to specific Healing-Centered initiatives and deliverables such as employee stipends, extended day, and overtime payments.
- Implement an accountability system for teams within the Healing-Centered Supports Team and the Office of Social Emotional Learning around professional learning development and special events including protocols around budgeting, scheduling, design, attendance, evaluation of effectiveness, etc.
- Coordinate on-going professional learning around the Healing-Centered Framework and Healing-Centered Roadmap including annual Healing-Centered Conference and other collaborative learning events with other departments, community partners, and city and state agencies.
- Create and lead a department internship program to create a pipeline of aspiring clinicians in building their administrative skills in program creation and evaluation.
- Oversee short-term staffing needs, hire and train miscellaneous employees, and supervise assigned projects as indicated in Healing-Centered Roadmap.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In order to be successful and achieve the above responsibilities, the Manager, Healing-Centered Supports must possess the following qualifications:
Education Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Master’s Degree in Education, Social Work / Counseling, Business Administration, Public Administration, Public Health Administration or a related field from an accredited college or university is strongly preferred
- Licensed Clinical Social Worker is strongly preferred
Experience Required:
- Minimum of four (4) years of professional experience in progressively responsible leadership roles, including the following, is required:
- Minimum of two (2) years in a supervisor/manager position responsible for leading a team of direct reports
- Minimum of one (2) years managing large state or federal grant(s) operational budgets and programming implementation
- Experience managing and evaluating professional development learning series and events for school district staff
- Experience working with school climate and social-emotional learning programs or initiatives
- Experience working collaboratively across departments, including with school administrators, committees, vendors, and community partners, specifically within Chicago Public Schools, is strongly preferred
Other Requirements:
- Flexibility of schedule, including the ability to occasionally work hours outside of a traditional schedule (ex: evenings, weekends) to support department initiatives is required
- Access to reliable transportation to travel between CPS worksites and other locations is required
- A valid U.S. Driver’s License and vehicle access is preferred

- Highly organized, multi-tasker with excellent project and time management skills; ability to effectively achieve multiple goals and manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting regular deliverables and engaging in continuous improvement
- Strong leadership and team building skills, including the ability to provide highly structured supports to team members that support large scale and complex workstreams and projects
- Proficient in the use of technology, including computer programs such as Google Workspace (Sheets, Slides, and Forms), as well as Microsoft Office Suite
Conditions of Employment
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to:
- Establish/Maintain Chicago Residency -Employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of their CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district. The Chicago residency requirement does not apply to temporary/part-time positions; however, all CPS employees must be residents of Illinois.
- Be Fully Vaccinated Against COVID-19 -Unless approved for a medical or religious exemption, all employees are required to be up-to-date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including boosters, and to submit proof of vaccination to the district within 30 days of hire. “Up-to-date” on vaccination is defined as being at least two weeks past all primary vaccine doses and any applicable boosters.
