Manager, Marketing and Stewardship (Planned Giving) - National Geographic

How You’ll Contribute The Advancement team cultivates, solicits, and stewards individuals, as well as foundation, government and corporate partners who invest in the Society to drive impact through science, technology, education, exploration, and storytelling. The team collaborates with Society teams – and often works closely with Disney – to build transformative and impact-driven strategic partnerships. The team also produces global events that deepen connections and leverage the Society’s power to convene, and directs robust annual, major and planned giving programs empowering the Society with a broad base of public support. Planned gifts enable the National Geographic Society to add new dimensions to our research, conservation, exploration and education programs that result in real solutions to our most critical challenges. Supervised by a Planned Giving Officer, the Planned Giving Manager (PGM) is responsible for the development and management of a comprehensive planned giving marketing and communications plan to generate interest in supporting the National Geographic Society through various planned giving vehicles including Charitable Gift Annuities, Bequests, Retirement Assets, and more. The PGM will also develop and lead a stewardship strategy for our Alexander Graham Bell Legacy Society members. Your Impact Responsibilities Include: Marketing and Communications (35%): In collaboration with the Senior Director of Planned Giving, the PGM will develop a strategic Planned Giving communications and marketing plan with a focus on increasing planned giving prospects and commitments for estate gifts, IRA Qualified Charitable Distributions, Charitable Gift Annuities, and other planned gifts.. The PGM will fully execute the strategic plan, with a focus on the content, design, review, and production processes of the Planned Giving donor newsletter, NG Magazine ads, tailored gift proposals, collateral materials, web presence, email communications, social media and other marketing efforts. The PGM will coordinate with marketing vendors and internal stakeholders on all projects from inception to completion while meeting scheduled deadlines and with high attention to creativity and detail. Donor Relations and Stewardship (35%): The PGM will manage stewardship for members of the Alexander Graham Bell Legacy Society, strengthening new and existing relationships with legacy donors and helping to identify opportunities for stewardship and cultivation. Stewardship activities will include thank you calls and emails, letters, special invitations or other mailings, arrange donor visits to campus, follow up to survey responses, lift notes, progress reports, and other activities. In collaboration with the Planned Giving fundraisers and other key Advancement teams, the PGM will create gift proposals and agreements. In conjunction with the NGS Events Team, the PGM will ensure that legacy members participate in regional dinners and events, NG Live, GC Insider Calls, and larger NGS tentpole events such as Explorer’s Symposium and Storytellers Summit. Tracking and Analysis (20%): The PGM will track and report on marketing data that will enable Planned Giving to refine ongoing marketing practices and improve return on investment (where possible); update internal systems and processes with Advancement Operations to improve workflow and tracking of marketing performance. The PGM will work with a caging vendor to manage and track donor/prospect responses to marketing campaigns and will track all donor-related activities in Raiser’s Edge database for accuracy and activity analysis. Administrative Support (10%): The PGM will manage the primary Planned Giving email inbox and phone line that is available to donors, answering questions directly or directing them to the appropriate fundraiser. The PGM will also manage the receipt and processing of Planned Giving donor mail including marketing replies, legacy forms, and others as necessary, as well as Raiser's Edge processing for new legacy gifts. What You’ll Bring Educational Background Bachelor’s degree preferred Minimum Years and Type of Experience 5+ years of relevant work experience, preferably in a nonprofit development / fundraising setting. Necessary Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of planned giving vehicles and associated tax and estate planning issues Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills Strong project management and organization skills, able to manage multiple projects with high levels of attention to detail and effectively meet deadlines Ability to work independently and as part of a team, proactively solving problems using creative thinking skills Prior experience in a database management as well as knowledge of CRM database required; Raiser’s Edge experience preferred Experience with InDesign, designers, print houses and mail shops Ability to maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with senior executives, high net worth individuals, and donors, including an older population Understanding and appreciation for NGS’ mission and capacity to communicate the organization’s values to donors and prospects Supervision No Direct Reports Salary Information The National Geographic Society offers a competitive and holistic total rewards package. Our compensation structure and transparent pay philosophy are based on industry-specific market data for similar-sized nonprofit organizations. The salary range for this position accounts for a wide range of factors including but not limited to organizational need; specific skill sets; experience and training; certifications; and more. At the National Geographic Society, individuals are typically hired at or near the starting point of the salary range for their role, and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The salary range for this position is $90,200 - $95,000.
