Position Summary
Mesabi Metallics is looking for a highly motivated analytical and strategic thinker with a Bachelors or Masters in Mining, Geological, or Civil Engineering and 5-7 years of experience in a mining environment. The ideal candidate will have prior leadership experience in a mining environment and should have thorough knowledge of all facets of the mining industry, including measurement and operations safety management and environmental regulations.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to the General Manager - Mining, the Manager – Mine Technical Services will be responsible for the following:
- Oversee day to day activities of Mine Engineers, Geologist, and Mine Surveyor.
- Assist with the development of budgets and performance target measures for the group
- Develop and manage mine, waste dumps and stockpile designs
- Direct and coordinate the execution of projects and plans in order to achieve the desired results in safety, quality and cost
- Oversee the engineering phase of developments and operational activities
- Lead & direct exploration & identification studies for raw material sources including exploration, drilling programs, surface mapping & potential reserve estimates
- Verify that the assets are being operated per the mining plan
- Collaborate with the Mine Supervisors to ensure approved mine production targets are achieved
- Provide geology expertise for technical due diligence with respect to new resource acquisitions
- Participate in the selection of new equipment
- Monitor key performance indicators on a continuous basis in order to improve process efficiency, product quality and cost effectiveness
- Complete performance management tools for all direct reports as required
- Promote and encourage teamwork and high-performance standards and health and environmental stewardship throughout the division
- Provide support and feedback to departmental staff to ensure continuous improvement and development
- Provide effective, ongoing communications to ensure departmental staff are aware of ongoing issues or changes
- Support Safety Management programs and regulatory compliance
Skills and Qualifications
- 5 - 7 years’ experience coupled with prior leadership experience in a mining environment and thorough knowledge of all facets of mining industry, including measurement and operations safety management and environmental regulations.
- Excellent leadership & interpersonal skills;
- Strong verbal and written communication skills;
- Strong PC skills, proficient in MS Office, ArcGIS Pro, Vulcan or other mine planning software programs;
- Knowledge of mining performance and systems;
- Ability to engage, inspire and manage the performance of others;
Education
- Bachelor or Masters of Engineering in Mining/Geological/Civil.
Physical Requirements
- This position requires regular work in front of a PC, desk, and phone and occasional travel.
