About the Job
• The Manager, Nursing is responsible for the overall management and education of multiple members of the care team including, regarding best practices, regulatory requirements, and clinical workflows.
• Serves as a leader, role model and liaison for the care team, ensuring quality patient-centric care at the medical offices.
• Responsible for educational support for all care team activities. The Manager, Nursing may manage up to two medical offices.
Principal Accountabilities
• In conjunction with the Practice Administrator, facilitates supervisory functions including, but not limited to, applicant screening and selection, orientation, training, supervising, co-administration of performance evaluations, disciplining and, as appropriate, terminating the nursing staff on the care team. The Nurse Manager is accountable for incorporating the nursing process into all interactions involving nurses and medical assistants. Interfaces with the physicians and all staff members as it relates to care team process.
• Ensures compliance with all infection control policies and procedures and OSHA standards. Participates in program evaluation and quality improvement activities; actively seeks input to support patient care and outcomes. Ensure all HEDIS, HCC and PCMH measures are completed in the required time frame. Collaborates with the Quality team to identify areas in need of improvement as well as sharing of Best Practices. Reports all metrics related to patient outcomes and works collaboratively with the Regional Clinical Director and the Quality Department. Maintains all regulatory certifications including but not limited to AAAASF, AAAHC, Joint Commission, and CMS Deemed Status.
• Participates in the development of new programs within the organization. Supports implementation of programs and procedures developed at an organizational level. Assesses the practice needs to identify gaps in care teams and assists with recruiting and retention efforts as appropriate. Collects data and adjusts process to accommodate program requirements.
• Serves in a clinical capacity, as needed. Understands and supports practice of other team members and refers patients appropriately. Manages and resolves all patient complaints in collaboration with Risk Management and Regional Medical Director and/or designee. Serves as a clinical liaison between the call center and the medical office to assure patient access and satisfaction.
• Evaluates the performance of the care teams and makes recommendations for changes as needed. Follows up on any implemented changes and supports the maintenance of the changes. Provides staff education by teaching and supporting staff in the care team process and promotes and coordinates care team educational programs at the individual office setting. Provides oversight to ensure daily huddles are occurring and in-basket messages are responded to in a timely manner; addresses delinquencies with appropriate staff. Oversees and supports the Case Management team members within the practice.
• Evaluates staffing needs and makes recommendations as needed. Works collaboratively with the Practice Administrator to create and maintain schedules, oversee facility maintenance and report any environmental hazards for immediate resolution. Reviews Facility Codes/Disaster plans. Ensures all staff is oriented to fire/emergency procedures. Conducts/facilitates and documents/evaluates drills (fire, disaster, code blue). Ensures that evacuation maps, PASS/RACE signs are located and maintained as appropriate. Ensures fire extinguishers are checked annually by outside vendor and monthly by facility.
• Assists in the hiring and general orientation of staff; provides work direction, assigns schedules, and conducts on-the-job training. Monitors and evaluates performance, and recommends personnel actions, such as promotions, demotions, transfers, and disciplinary actions. Assists in the interpretation of and compliance with Human Resources, ACP and departmental policies and procedures. Ensures employees understand and comply with local, state, federal and regulatory standards, as they apply to respective job functions.
• Ensures nursing practices of the care team as well as own practices are in accordance with NYS Department of Education nursing standards. Responsible for the performance evaluations and performance improvement plans of the Nursing Staff within the practice. Responsible for clinical in-services, ongoing education within the practice for all clinical staff.
• Maintains licensure and certification as required and maintains responsibility for own professional development through periodic attendance at ongoing educational events
• Develops strategies to maintain high levels of wellness with care team members.
• Responsible for the ordering of medical supplies for the medical offices and reconciling purchase orders. Responsible for continual review of products and their value to ensure the ordering is appropriate to the facility.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.
Education, Training, Licenses, Certifications
• Associate's Degree in Nursing; Enrollment in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program within 2 years of hire & completion of BSN within 5 years
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Health or Business Administration Preferred
• Current New York State Registered Nurse license
• BLS
• ACLS
Relevant Work Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Five to seven years' experience as a Registered Nurse (R)
• Two to four years of supervisory or teaching experience (R)
• Outpatient ambulatory care experience (P)
• Experience with an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) (R)
