About the Job
The Pediatric Wound Care Program Manager is a Certified Wound and Ostomy nurse with responsibility for the operation and growth of the Pediatric Wound Care service line. The Pediatric Wound Care Program Mgr focuses on safe effective patient and family centered care, customer satisfaction and quality outcomes. The Pediatric Wound Care Program Manager promotes self and staff development with an emphasis on evidence based practice and education supported by a Practice Governance framework. The Pediatric Wound Care Program Manager assesses patient populations served developing and monitoring programs to ensure highest quality outcomes are achieved for the patients served. Populations served could be any population along the continuum of care from wellness to illness, outpatient to inpatient etc. Collaborates with team ensuring proper care when population care requires direct care delivery. Provision of direct patient care in concert with professional Nursing staff. The Pediatric Wound Care Program Manager ensures that the Swanson Theory of Caring and patient/family centered care are the foundation for nursing practice and that staff at all levels are involved in allocation of resources, interdisciplinary activities and collaboration.
Key Accountabilities:
- Manage, as appropriate, the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the Pediatric wound care and ostomy program. Serve as a liaison to administration, and represent the Pediatric wound care and ostomy program on various hospital and community committees to enhance and foster optimal care management. Develop, implement, and maintain the financial and business goals of the pediatric wound care team in collaboration with the Director of patient care services. Effectively manage informatics, financial and capital resources. Manage identified operational activities. Direct and coordinate assigned projects, including identification of/leadership of project teams, documentation of project progress and presentation of recommendations. Utilizes change management principles to lead projects.
- Coordinate and supervise pediatric wound care nurses at the bedside. Assess and make recommendations for wounds, pressure injures, and ostomies as appropriate using evidence based practice. Assist with the development of the with the wound warrior program at Norton Children’s Hospital. Provide mentorship and guidance to the wound care nurses as appropriate for wound, ostomy and continence (WOCN) certification.
- Knowledge of Health Care Environment: Ensures compliance with regulatory agency standards & policies; supports patient safety & a non-punitive reporting environment; participates in quality improvement process; articulates the link between organization metrics & national quality initiatives/metrics; monitors environment for areas of risk & liability.
- Use general accounting principles; develop & implement retention strategies; provide coaching, counseling, & mentoring; utilize corrective discipline; promote a safe staff & patient environment; participate in evaluation of technology.
- Monitor clinical processes and outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided; develop quality filters, audits and case reviews; Encourages and organizes staff participation in wound care related quality assurance and performance improvement activities within the department and organization. Analyses hospital wound and pressure injury data for trends and report findings appropriately. Serves as a process management team member or leader as requested. Identifies processes which can be improved and works collaboratively to ensure the improvements occur. Works collaboratively to increase efficiencies throughout the multiple sites of Norton Children’s Hospital’s wound care services.
Required:
- One year experience in wound and ostomy care
- Bachelor Degree (Nursing)
- Registered Nurse, Certified Wound Ostomy Continence Nurse
Desired:
- Master Degree (Nursing)
