About the Job
What you will be responsible for: The Automation Engineer will be part of a team that is responsible for designing, building, testing, and validating automated changes to existing manufacturing processes and optimizing any existing automated and semi-automated systems in multiple manufacturing and machining environments. The goal of the position is to help improve processes, increase capacities, reduce direct labor, and save costsby performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Design and Implementation: Utilize SolidWorks to Design, develop, build, and implement automated systems and processes to optimize efficiency and productivity across the manufacturing and machining departments. Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to analyze requirements, design solutions, and oversee the integration and testing, and validation of automation systems.
- Software Solutions: Meet with System integrators and PLC programmers to determine software necessities, troubleshoot software issues, and identify software weaknesses for automated systems. Create a connection between information inputs, controllers, and outputs.
- Automation Plans: Collaborate with other departments to create automation plans that align with business goals. Communicate with clients both internal and external about project requirements and work with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities to increase efficiency through automation.
- Quality Assurance (QA): Lead the implementation of changes or new technology and establish monitoring and QA processes where necessary. Additionally, investigate defects or errors in the technology.
- Will play a crucial role in streamlining processes and enhancing efficiency within organizations.
- Perform additional responsibilities/duties as assigned.
Education / Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in a field such as mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or electrical engineering technology is required.
- 5 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Prefer hands-on experience working in the medical device industry.
- Familiarity or knowledge of ISO 13485:2016, FDA, EU MDR, cGMP, and cGDP is preferred.
- Control Systems: Understanding of PLC controls, robotic controls, and vision systems is preferred, but not required
- Electrical and Electronics Knowledge: Familiarity with electrical circuits, sensors, actuators, and PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) is important for designing and troubleshooting automated systems.
- Mechanical Engineering: Basic mechanical engineering concepts help in designing and integrating mechanical components into automation systems.
- Robotics: Knowledge of robotics principles, kinematics, and dynamics is valuable for automation engineers working with robotic systems.
- Industrial Communication Protocols: Understanding protocols like Modbus, Profibus, or OPC-UA is essential for interfacing with industrial devices.
- Problem-Solving: Automation engineers often encounter complex problems. Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities are crucial.
- Project Management: Ability to manage projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and meet deadlines is important.
- Continuous Learning: Staying updated with industry trends, new technologies, and best practices is essential for long-term success.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations (Not required)
- Certified Automation Professional (CAP): Offered by the International Society of Automation (ISA), CAP certification validates expertise in automation and control systems. It covers skills from design to operation and maintenance.
- Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST): Also from ISA, CCST certification is ideal for control systems technicians, instrumentation technicians, and automation professionals.
