MANUFACTURING ENGINEER - PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDING
Provide engineering assistance to support manufacturing and quality control efforts. In order to effect operational efficiency and economy, to ensure continuous production of parts consistent with established standards, and to meet customer’s desired results by performing the following duties personally or through available resources.
Education/Experience (or will train):
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field, or a technical degree with 3+ years work experience.
- Preferred to have hands-on engineering knowledge of plastic injection molding including part manufacturing, processing, and tooling design automation.
- Good communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills with the ability to coordinate customer needs and production capabilities.
- Must have ability to multitask and manage multiple projects.
- Knowledge of CMM dimensional measuring equipment, pin gages, and calipers, as well as other equipment as required.
- Proficient in PC, Microsoft Office, Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Blueprint Reading, SQC pack, and design of Methodology.
- Knowledge of measurement system analysis and process capability.
- Knowledge of SPC and Minitab.
- Proficient in the use of CAD software.
- Knowledge of PLC control system integration and programming.
- Knowledge/Training to ISO 13485 (current) Medical Devices QM System
- Knowledge/Training to ISO 14971 (current) Risk Management
Essential Functions of Job:
- Develop or revise standard operations and working practices; develop and conduct training sessions related to revised practices; and observe workers to ensure compliance.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with production leads and all production personnel.
- Develop and troubleshoot trim, silicone molding, and de-flashing processes.
- Lead engineering investigations when production issues arise.
- Design and qualify fixtures to facilitate product development or solve production issues.
- Evaluate and recommend process specification changes.
- Develop and analyze statistical data and product specifications to evaluate present standards and achieve targeted quality and repeatability.
- Investigate root cause analysis and implement corrective action as it pertains to customer complaints and internal non-conformance.
- Identify and/or resolve dimensional characterization methodology and inspection criteria.
- Work to maintain ERP and SRP production monitoring systems to ensure accurate representation of production data.
- Qualify/validate processes and/or equipment to meet customer and Company objectives.
- Implement and support Research and Development initiatives related to new technology, and release of new production components.
- Work directly with applications engineers on design and implementation of new automated cells, EOAT, and downstream equipment.
- Develop and implement low level automation solutions for downstream equipment and secondary operations.
- Identify customer needs and new manufacturing capabilities to help future growth.
- Work directly with NPD engineers during stages of development to ensure successful production throughout the product’s life cycle.
- Support estimating and prototypes on aspects of production processes to aid in the development of production and prototype quotations.
- Oversee, assist, and manage transfer of projects from development (NPD) to production.
- Work directly with existing customers to oversee print/design changes to existing production products.
