About the Job
Our client is seeking a Maintenance Unit Supervisor for their Rolling Department. The Maintenance Unit Supervisor is accountable for providing leadership and direction to assigned crew members to meet business requirements for efficient metal production in a lean manufacturing environment. Under the direction of the Maintenance Superintendent, the incumbent ensures productivity, safety, quality, improved recovery, reliable and consistent delivery performance, and rapid problem-solving in a cost-effective, customer-centric environment.
Responsibilities:
Maintain a safe work environment and ensure no harm to people or the environment
Lead individual safety discussions and job-specific safety reviews
Support operating results through effective management of subordinates focusing on quantity, quality, timeliness, safety, recovery, and delivery performance
Develop individuals by providing challenging assignments, training, coaching, and mentoring
Ensure work is allocated fairly and clearly assigned to crew members; prioritize work based on business criticality
Decide and deploy appropriate crewing arrangements for planned and unplanned situations
Lead a technically capable maintenance workforce that values diversity and is customer-oriented, responsive, and flexible
Apply root cause analysis and rapid problem-solving techniques with craftspeople to maintain or restore production
Gather data to assist in root cause analysis and problem-solving for major exceptions
Manage assets cost-effectively, ensuring proper equipment operations, availability, and long-term viability
Advance business objectives regarding quality, costs, waste elimination, and lean manufacturing
Make fair and equitable decisions about performance, including recognition and discipline, with supporting documentation
Develop relationships and persuade others to resolve problems, change minds, or produce customer satisfaction
Qualifications:
Basic Qualifications:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) from an accredited institution
Minimum of 3 years of hands-on maintenance experience
Minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience with direct reports
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
This position is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), requiring U.S. person status (U.S. Citizen, U.S. Permanent Resident, Political Asylee, or Refugee).
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment
Mechanical background is a plus
Experience in a union environment is a plus
Knowledge of company policies, procedures, and practices related to HR/IR, including bargaining and local agreements, is a plus
Working knowledge of principles and concepts of Lean Manufacturing (ABS) for effective business results
Shift Information:
12-hour shifts, rotating approximately every 6-12 weeks from days to nights based on business conditions
