Manufacturing Maintenance Supervisor
RPI, a global leader in print-on-demand, is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Supervisor for our Rochester, NY facility. This role will oversee a small maintenance team of direct reports, while also actively participating in day-to-day maintenance tasks. You'll be responsible for ensuring the effective operation of equipment through preventative maintenance and troubleshooting, while supporting production goals by minimizing downtime. Your leadership will embody RPI's values, fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement on the production floor.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Lead maintenance technicians in performing scheduled maintenance duties and ensuring proper maintenance procedures are followed.
- Coordinate and schedule outside service technical support as necessary.
- Maintain spare parts inventory, balancing machine availability and operational needs with inventory expenses.
- Demonstrate strong knowledge of machine operation, setup, and safety protocols.
- Modify or assemble structures to improve productivity and safety in the facility.
- Develop, implement, and perform preventative maintenance procedures to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturers and service providers to deepen understanding of complex machine operations.
- Assist with the installation, development, and startup of new processes, particularly in support of new product launches.
- Provide support to operations as needed to achieve production goals.
- Experience with overseeing facilities maintenance, including preparation for upcoming moves and relocation of machinery.
Required Skills/Experience
- 5 years maintenance experience or servicing of printing/bindery equipment in a factory/plant environment.
- 2-3 years' experience as a lead or supervisor preferably in the maintenance field.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Training certificate for machine service organization or technical training in packaging, automotive, or military systems a plus!
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-stress, fast-paced, and dynamic environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to mentor and develop maintenance technicians.
- Expertise in disciplined mechanical troubleshooting (electrical, mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics).
- Proficiency with workshop power tools (drill press, grinders, bandsaw, etc.).
- Knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, as well as lubrication systems (e.g., oilers, air filters).
- Familiarity with electrical wiring, control panels, electrical sensors (limit switches, proximity switches, photo eyes, etc.).
- Competency in using voltmeters and ammeters for electrical troubleshooting.
- Strong understanding and promotion of workplace safety protocols (interlocks, Lockout/Tagout, ergonomics, hazardous materials).
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) for documentation and reporting.
- Experience with machine controllers (Relays, PLCs) is desirable.
- Knowledge of Relay Ladder Logic and PLCs, electrical circuit diagrams, and electric motors (AC, DC, stepper) is highly desirable.
- Forklift operator certification is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, twist, turn, and bend for extended periods during shifts.
- Comfortable working in a moderately loud manufacturing environment.
- Capability to perform hands-on tasks requiring physical dexterity, including lifting and moving equipment.
- Sharp vision for detecting machine issues and ensuring quality in equipment performance.
