Overview:
Manufacturing Manager for a nonwoven manufacturing production floor with two primary lines, associated equipment and staff. Responsibilities include ensuring that short and long term safety, product quality, production and cost targets are met within the operation. Coordination with all departments to ensure adequate resources are brought to bear on unit problems, interfacing with company resources and coordinating long range plans to assure the development of the production assets and personnel. Directly manages machine supervisors and indirectly manages the machine operators and support staff. Position reports directly to the Site Leader.
Responsibilities:Duties & Responsibilities
- Comply will all company safety standards, policies and procedures. Lead team with a focus of Safety as a priority for decisions and help develop a Safety First culture.
- Exercises general responsibility for line process, equipment & personnel safety. Works in conjunction with Safety Manager to develop procedures to ensure that process safety systems are adequate and properly maintained.
- Manage and lead production team to meet or exceed production targets for machine throughput, efficiency and waste reduction.
- Work closely with team leads and employees to ensure consistent and timely training on proper methods of operations to achieve quality and productivity.
- Provide leadership for employee relations through effective communication, coaching, training and development.
- Monitors daily production targets (volumes, efficiency, waste). Reviews line progress and problems each day and coordinates problem resolution.
- Understands, monitors and controls department financial responsibilities for expenses and labor to meet forecast.
- Determine operations headcount needs to ensure optimum customer satisfaction.
- Maintain positive and effective relationships with internal and external customer.
- Works closely with maintenance and engineering teams to gain maximum machine efficiencies.
- Perform and manage special projects associated with safety or cost savings, delegating responsibilities, setting targets for projects and following through to their successful completion.
- Leads department and takes ownership of results, performs or delegates necessary tasks as required to meet goals. Reacts independently amending operating conditions to alleviate problems or optimize production.
- Participates in the preparation of the line’s operational budget.
- Coordinates with Product Development in the development of new products and/or improvements of existing products specific to the line.
- Interfaces with company and other outside technical resources. Includes reviewing and discussing general operations, production projections, inventories, discussing technical problems and requesting expertise and technical advice and support.
- Participates in long range resource planning in support of identified production and maintenance plans. Evaluate and recommends future headcount needs and ways to achieve headcount objectives for the successful operation of the line and determining the needs for equipment expansion and modification.
- Works with HR to coordinate the training and development of employees. Includes identifying development needs, implementing programs as required, carefully monitoring progress and coordinating with HR as required.
- Evaluates process and procedures and makes recommendations to management for Continuous Improvement opportunities. Instills an entrepreneurial spirit within the company, encouraging the same among direct reports.
- Member of Site Leadership Team, ability to meet with peer managers, provide necessary input on results, plans and opportunities. Ability to develop strong working relationships with a diverse team with a focus on improvements to the business.
- Follows all company policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, or closely related field or eight (8) to ten (10) years process and/or production engineering experience in the nonwovens/pulp & paper industry.
- Five (5) years managerial experience.
- Intermediate computer skills including MS Office Products (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.)
- Problem solving and strong analytical skills required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills
- Textile or nonwovens experience desired
- Lean Manufacturing experience, required
- Six Sigma Greenbelt or other statistical based continuous improvement methodology, preferred
