Strom Minnesota is currently looking for a Manufacturing Process Engineer for our client in Hopkins, MN. This is a hands-on Engineering position that does require some electrical skills and working knowledge of PLC’s.
Summary
Evaluates existing processes to improve safety, quality, on-time customer delivery and efficiency of operations while reducing manufacturing costs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Develops, evaluates and improves manufacturing methods.
Improve safety and function of equipment through the use of programmable logic controllers.
Assists in the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes and products.
Oversees installation to ensure machines and equipment are installed and functioning according
to specifications.
Improves equipment safety through ergonomic improvements, machine guarding, and safe work practices.
Collaborates with Production Department to provide a high quality product delivered to the customer on-time.
Continues implementation of Lean Manufacturing practices, such as 5-S, value stream mapping, poke yoke (defect prevention), continuous improvement, visual management, and other Lean tools to improve worker efficiency and reduce waste of materials and utilities.
Confers with management, engineering, production and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
Documents critical processes and procedures.
Confers with appropriate personnel to implement operating procedures and resolve system malfunctions.
Oversees equipment installation and fabrication.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in mechanical or electrical engineering from four-year college or university; and three plus years related experience and/or training preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have experience with ERP system software; strong skills in CADKEY or AutoCAD, PLC programming software, and Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word software.
