Manufacturing Production Scheduler
Responsible for the scheduling and purchasing of production. Orders and replenishes production materials to align with the production schedules. This position creates and maintains the production schedule based on direction from master scheduler / director of purchasing, places vendor orders to assure materials align with the production schedule requirements, creates internal material transfers to assure materials are in the correct location, makes inventory buying decisions that minimize total cost to the company within established cost/delivery guidelines, monitors and reports current and foreseen service and or quality issues, maintains a positive relationship with our vendors and company associates, and keeps management informed at all times of all issues that could impact material availability, cost, and or schedule issues.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Create and maintain production schedule based on replenishment model.
- Schedules and executes rail car location spotting and manages lease track.
- Makes decisions on inventory buys within department guidelines. Enters orders for materials required to meet production.
- Monitors material deliveries to assure they are meeting expectations, reporting to management all variances.
- Reviews MRP to determine packaging needs and creates internal material transfers to move packaging from warehouse to production.
- Monitors inventory levels to ensure inventory will meet the company's production schedule. Assists in developing inventory planning levels to reflect normal business and foreseen changes on the horizon.
- Maintains frequent and regular communication with the company's vendors to stay abreast of all issues that might affect supply and costs of supply.
- Communicates to management any issue that would affect inventory cost/availability/service/quality as soon as the challenge surfaces.
- Maintains item maintenance within the company's systems to assure our data is current and accurate.
- Maintains and tracks historical material use.
- Meets with management and vendors as required to assure all parties are aligned. Works with vendors and production to expedite orders as required.
- Works with current and new vendors to secure best products and service at lowest cost.
- Works with our vendors and warehouses to resolve inventory discrepancies.
- Works with our vendors as required to address quality/damage/availability/delivery issues.
- Works with our vendors, purchasing dept. and accounting to manage invoice variances/credits.
- Manages and/or assists in physical inventories, including on premise counts and reconciliation.
- Communicates product/supplier concerns/opportunities to Manufacturing and Director of Purchasing.
- Assists the Purchasing team with all assignments as needed.
- Represents Purchasing team in cross-departmental teams as requested.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Bachelor's degree and/or 5 years' experience in inventory management or other related business field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in planning/scheduling.
- Demonstrates ability to adjust and manipulate production schedules, accurately and in a timely fashion.
- Demonstrated abilities/skills in problem, decision making, and conflict resolution.
- Ability to maintain composure and reason in a fast-changing work environment.
- Good understanding of purchasing cost, including discounts, freight, warehousing, quality, etc.
- Ability to multi-task with good presentation skills.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- 3 yrs experience with AS400 applications. Competent in Excel and Word skills.
