Experience Requirements
- One (1) Year of direct experience in shipboard electrical installation and repair services
- Basic familiarity with NAVSEA Standard Item (NSI) 009-73 requirements:
o Electrical work: Understanding shipboard installation, overhaul, repair, disassembling, and reassembling electrical and electronic equipment using drawings and instructions. This may include electrical installations such as switchboards, transformers, and manual and automatic bus transfers.
o Work authorization forms: Purpose of, and process for, creating, finalizing, and submitting Work Authorization Forms (WAF).
o Blueprints and drawings: How blueprints and drawings, including arrangement, block-wiring, and cable routing are interpreted
o Electrical troubleshooting: The use of multimeters, megohmmeters, and network testers.
o Structural boundary testing: Repaired areas that require a structural boundary test must remain uninsulated and unpainted until the inspection and test are complete.
Other Requirements
- Able to lift and move up to 45 pounds
- Able to perform physical labor on commercial ships, barges, and U.S. Navy vessels
- Able to work collaboratively in small, supervised shipboard teams
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
- Must be able to pass pre-employment physical, drug, and background screening
- Must be able to obtain government facility and/or shipyard access, to include a DBIDS credential, as required by work locations
- Ability to work overtime, as required
- Must have reliable transportation
Duties and Responsibilities for Entry-Level Electricians
Ability to learn and accomplish the following under the supervision of experienced marine electrician/electronics technicians:
- Installation and removal of shipboard electrical cabling and electronic equipment (banding, boxes, connectors, equipment, penetrations, cableways, hangers, and associated components)Assist with MCT, MCP, Stuffing Tube opening, packing, closing, and testing
- Assist with electrical installations of Manual Bus Transfers (MBT), Automatic Bus Transfers (ABT), Switchboards, and Transformers
- Use hand tools and power tools (grinders, reciprocating saws, drills, etc.) and perform various manual labor tasks, to include bolting and unbolting electrical and electronic equipment
- Maintain a clean and organized shipboard working area
- Perform all work safely following OSHA Maritime established policies and procedures for electrical safety.
