What would you do as a Marine Engineer/Designer
As a Marine Engineer/Designer at Lake Assault Boats, you will play a pivotal role in crafting the future of maritime engineering. Your primary responsibilities will include collaborating with peers to design and create ship structures and systems, ensuring that all vessel requirements and specifications are met. You'll transform innovative 3D designs into comprehensive 2D drawing sets, while also checking the work of CAD drafters to maintain high-quality standards. Your expertise will extend to preparing detailed bills of materials and coordinating with cross-functional teams, including vendors and subcontractors.
You'll also manage design changes and provide timely guidance to facilitate seamless transitions from engineering to production. Additionally, you will engage in hands-on equipment testing, including builder's sea trials, and maintain meticulous engineering change documentation. Your ability to perform mathematical modeling for weight studies and develop production drawings will be crucial in upholding our commitment to safety and excellence.

To excel as a Marine Engineer/Designer at Lake Assault Boats, a robust set of skills is essential. Proficiency in design software such as AutoCAD, Rhino, Orca, and SolidWorks is crucial, along with expertise in operating computer-aided design tools and manual drafting workstations. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective collaboration with peers and production teams.
A basic understanding of electric circuitry, routing, and schematics will enhance your contributions to complex projects. The ability to prioritize multiple tasks and adhere to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment is vital. A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Naval Architecture is preferred, while an Associate's Degree in drafting or a related field is required.
Experience in design engineering or shipbuilding will be beneficial. Additionally, physical requirements include the ability to work in a manufacturing setting, maneuver through varied terrain, and lift up to 50 lbs as needed. The position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working in front of a computer. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with moderate noise exposure. The incumbent will be required to occasionally climb up steep stairs/steps, walking for moderate periods of time over even and uneven terrain, reaching forward, overhead, and to the sides, etc. Must have listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Must be able to work in areas at times that are not environmentally controlled. Ability to move/lift/pull/push 50 lbs. Ability to get underway with high-speed watercraft in variable weather conditions.
