Marine Surveyor Sr.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: To inspect damaged cargo to determine the nature, cause, and extent of damages; to review documents to determine when the cargo was damaged; and to provide written reports to underwriters and other parties with his/her qualified opinion as to the cause of loss.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversees loading and unloading of cargo from ships and other forms of transit to document damages as they are loaded and/or unloaded.
- Inspects damaged ships to determine cause of the damage and amount of damage resulting from collisions or motor failures.
- Receives and reviews new claims and maintains data integrity in the claims system.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS and RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Supports the organization's quality program(s).
- Travels as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Licensing
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferred. Valid driver's license and current insurance coverage required, along with motor vehicle record that meets Property requirements.
Experience
Six (6) years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Skills & Knowledge
- Good oral and written communication skills
- PC literate, including Microsoft Office products
- Good customer service skills
- Good organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
- Ability to meet or exceed Performance Competencies
WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical:
- Ability to climb, crawl, stoop, kneel, reach/work overhead, lift/carry up to 50 pounds, and be able to push/pull up to 100 pounds
- Ability to drive up to 4 hours per day
- Ability to work in wet and/or humid conditions, high/precarious places, outside weather conditions (extreme cold or heat), and in moderately noisy environments
- Ability to work safely around moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and toxic or caustic chemicals
- Ability to use close, distance, color, and peripheral vision as well as good depth perception and ability to adjust focus
- Ability to work in all elements and weather conditions
