SUMMARY
The Marketing and Communications Specialist serves as a high-energy communications generalist who handles media relations, writes in a variety of styles, assists with social media and advertising, posts to the website, and covers campus events, among other duties. This individual must be a strong writer who can meet daily deadlines, organized and able to juggle a variety of projects effectively, flexible and collaborative, comfortable as a self-starter and a team member, technically skilled, and a savvy online researcher. Needs an understanding of social media content development/creation and news and/or PR writing styles (including AP Style) and basic photography and videography skills.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Serves as a high-energy communications generalist (writing, social media, photography, basic videography).
Assists with social media content/posting and website updates/posts, in coordination with Mkt/Digital leader.
Writes stories for InRe magazine; helps PR/Comms leader with production management.
Responds to media requests; writes and distributes releases; pitches stories. Works to maximize PR value of activities involving STCL Houston people. Sends emergency closures, late starts to local media.
Coordinates with Mkt/Digital leader to schedule/place/track advertising.
Handles daily deadline-driven writing (news, features, releases, social, web).
Handles basic video editing, basic design (e.g., in Canva), primarily for social media.
Coordinates project elements on selected publications/ events, in coordination with MarCom colleagues (for example, scheduling photography, setting up interviews).
Covers events to capture stories, photos for quick-turnaround usage.
Creates PowerPoint presentations, in coordination with AVP (for Town Halls, for example).
Updates MarCom information on intranet ( Stanley2.0) and on website.
Regularly runs/creates reports that demonstrate results in media relations, social media; coordinates MarCom dashboard report, with AVP.
Utilizes brand standards in daily work.

Must be computer literate with proficiency in MS Office applications (Word and PowerPoint essential; Excel helpful). Need ability to utilize Canva and know or be quick to learn tools for social media management, email marketing, web content management (WordPress), and basic videography and photography editing. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite a plus.
Must be able to manage details and deadlines for quick-turn projects and projects that stretch over months.
Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with people at all levels of the organization.
Must be comfortable taking direction on specific tasks from/collaborating closely with project leaders within the Marketing and Communications team.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor’s in marketing, English, journalism, public relations, or related field, and 3-5 years relevant experience.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Proficient in both spoken and written English. Ability to interpret and explain complex data. Ability to effectively and professionally communicate in one-on-one and small-group situations, and communicate on the phone, by email, and by text.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to perform basic math and analyze numerical data for patterns and trends.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to collect information through various means, establish facts, draw valid conclusions to craft effective messages, solve routine problems, and/or deal with a variety of variables in situations. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Fast-paced, academic, creative work environment. Must be able to work the general business schedule of the law school (M-F, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.) plus occasional evenings and weekends as necessary.
