Overview:
Is responsible for the treatment of soft tissues, which may include skin, fascia, and muscles and their dysfunctions for therapeutic purposes of establishing and maintaining good physical condition, comfort, and relief of pain. May use techniques such as gliding, kneading, percussion, compression, vibration, friction, nerve strokes, and stretching of tissue. May use massage therapy techniques and procedures either hands on or with mechanical devices; therapeutic application and use of oils, herbal or chemical powders, lubricants, nonprescription creams, lotions, scrubs, and other spa services. May use hot and cold packs.
A massage therapist is responsible for treating clients through soft tissue manipulation while maintaining a safe and relaxing experience. The therapist should be good at perceiving client wishes and needs through spoken language, body language and other cues and modifying their treatments accordingly.
Responsibilities:- Maintains accountability to the Director of Rehabilitation Services.
- Provide 15-90 minute massages to clients by appointment
- Guide clients through service offerings and determine which massages would benefit them most
- Take a detailed client history and note any health conditions
- Communicate with clients to determine painful or stressed areas of the body
- Advise clients on stretching, strengthening or relaxation methods
- Suggest future massage appointments and regime to clients
- Listen to clients during appointments and adjust technique as they desire
- Maintains professionalism before, during, and after massage has been completed.
- Monitor patient’s response to massage.
- Helps rehab tech stock and maintain inventory of supplies and linens.
- Maintains department cleanliness and safety and reports any problems incurred.
- Prepares client for massage with respect and allows patient to maintain dignity.
- Operates equipment correctly and safely
- Transports/Ambulates the patients safely in the rehab area.
- Maintains proper body mechanics during client massage.
- Makes proper use of lift table and other equipment such as face cradle, wedges, etc.
- Communicates clearly with patients and Rehab Services Staff
- Assists in maintenance of all equipment and reports any problems occurred.
- Assists in maintaining an accurate and complete outpatient schedule.
- Consistently greets customers in a friendly manner
- Maintains professional telephone etiquette and identifies self and department
- Takes message with complete and accurate information.
- Able to be cross trained to do some secretarial duties if needed.
- Maintains CEU requirements of 18 hours every two years.
- Maintains licensure in good standing which is renewed every two years on employee’s birthday.

Education: | - High school education or GED - Must complete and graduate with 500 in-classroom hours of massage therapy classes - Must pass either MBLEx, NCETM, or NCETMB |

Experience: | Prior client care experience | |
Degrees, Licensure, and/or Certification: | BLS Certification; Massage Therapy License with renewal every 2 years 18 hours of CEU credit every two years |
