- 1st Shift: Monday - Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
Job Purpose:
The Material Handler/Forklift Operator is responsible for ensuring the efficient flow of materials through the production process by safely operating forklifts and other material handling equipment. This role plays a key part in staging materials for upcoming jobs, transporting finished products, and maintaining inventory accuracy. By working closely with various departments and proactively managing schedules, the Material Handler supports overall production efficiency and helps maintain schedule integrity, contributing to a smooth and timely operation.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities:
- Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment safely and efficiently.
- Load and unload trucks, pallets, and containers.
- Monitor production schedules to ensure materials are staged for upcoming jobs.
- Stage materials in advance for the next job or multiple jobs to maintain a smooth workflow.
- Transport finished products to the next stage or process as required.
- Collaborate with purchasing, shipping, and receiving departments to manage ordered, incoming, or transferred products per schedule requirements.
- Communicate promptly any delays or material issues that may disrupt the production schedule.
- Ensure accurate inventory tracking by documenting material movements.
- Conduct routine inspections of forklifts and equipment to ensure safety and functionality.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment by performing general housekeeping duties.
- Utilize independent thinking to prioritize tasks and respond to requests effectively.
- Work closely with Area and Floor leads to support production needs and optimize operational efficiency.
- Follow all safety guidelines, company policies, and procedures.
Qualifications:
- Previous experience in material handling and forklift operation is required.
- Valid forklift certification is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to lift heavy objects and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team.
- Basic knowledge of inventory management systems is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
