FSSI is currently looking for a Material Handler to join our 2nd shift team in Santa Ana, CA. This position is responsible for staging and controlling the flow of material throughout two departments, requiring safely lifting and manipulating heavy objects. Serves as a back-up to department Expeditor and Meter Operator, which requires manually inserting documents into packaging by hand, operating metering equipment to apply postage to mail pieces, and organizing production workflows. We’re looking for a reliable candidate who is eager to grow in a fast-paced production environment!
Full-time Schedule: Monday – Friday, 1:30 pm – 10:00 pm. Overtime is scheduled as needed, and could require coming in earlier, staying later, and/or working a weekend shift during high-volume production cycles.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in loading and removal of bulk mail pieces from meter machines. Stack, prep and stage material on pallets.
- Verify accuracy of all information on job checklists; request required materials and kit complete jobs in preparation for production.
- Stage kitted jobs, including physically moving output trees, bins and trays requiring strenuous physical work such as heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling.
- Organize and manage material to adhere to safety requirements by reducing bulk weight whenever possible.
- Ensure leftover materials are promptly returned to either staged locations or warehouse upon completion of work.
- Ensure staged materials are kept organized and inventory counts are accurately maintained.
- Manually insert documents into envelopes, cartons and packages by hand and scan for accuracy.
- Operate metering equipment to apply appropriate postage to processed mail pieces based on specific checklist instructions.
- Work with shift leads to review schedules and prioritize work based on deadlines at the start of and during the shift. Continuously communicate and update leads on critical jobs.
- Utilizing production tracking tool; monitor, retrieve job output from both print and mailing departments, accept jobs into CI dept. and prepare jobs for production following the priority schedules.
- Utilizing Custom Insert consolidation tool, review and organize work to improve productivity of each operator and the department as a whole.
- Report inaccuracies to affected account representative and dept. leadership. Place job on hold with notes indicating reason for hold.
- Work with account representatives to promptly resolve customer questions or issues related to stock.
- Receive and give a verbal turnover from and to each shift expeditor.
- Assist the department with additional work, as needed and/or requested.
- Flexibility in work schedule is required on a recurring basis. This includes but is not limited to frequently working 10 or more hours per day and at least one Saturday shift a month.
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Bilingual English and Spanish is highly preferred.
- Experience that involves material handling/staging in a fast-paced production environment is required.
- Mail Inserting and metering experience is a plus.
- Strong time management, organizational and attention-to-detail skills required.
- Must demonstrate the ability to multitask and prioritize accordingly.
- Flexibility in work schedule to work overtime when needed is required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Regularly required to use hands and/or fingers to grasp, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, and talk and hear. Continuous standing, walking, and movement of the body required. When assisting with custom inserting, sitting for long periods of time is required. Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Frequently required to lift, move, pull, and push up to 50 pounds. Specific visions required by this job include close vision, distance vision, accurate color vision, peripheral vision, and focus adjustments.

Hiring Pay Range (hourly paid): $16.50 - $17.50
