Essential Functions
The Material Manager for the Operating Room is responsible for overseeing the procurement, inventory management, and distribution of surgical supplies and equipment. This role ensures that all materials are available and maintained at optimal levels to support surgical teams and patient care.
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure that surgical supplies are adequately stocked.
- Conduct regular inventory audits and manage reorder points to prevent shortages.
- Source and procure medical supplies and equipment, negotiating with vendors to obtain the best prices and terms.
- Evaluate supplier performance and maintain relationships to ensure quality service and products.
- Coordinate the distribution of materials to various surgical areas, ensuring timely delivery before scheduled procedures.
- Ensure tissue tracking forms are completed and accompany tissue
- Ensure tissue licensure are maintained and updated yearly.
- Implement efficient storage solutions and maintain organized supply rooms.
- Ensure all materials meet safety and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with the infection control team to maintain sterilization protocols.
- Assist in budget planning and control for surgical supplies, tracking expenses and identifying cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure adherence to hospital policies, safety regulations, and accreditation standards.
- Work closely with surgical staff, including surgeons and nurses, to understand material needs and preferences.
- Provide training and support to staff on inventory processes and new supplies.
- Prepare reports on inventory status, usage trends, and procurement activities for management review.

Minimum Education/Certifications
Previous experience in materials management, preferably in a healthcare setting.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Demands Analysis:
Exposed to unpleasant odors, body waste, and communicable diseases. Encounters stress, emergencies, and death. On feet most of the day, lifts patients and moves heavy equipment. Interacts with family, visitors, health team members and other hospital personnel
