Idaho National Laboratory is hiring a Material Quality Engineer to work in our Procurement Quality department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Idaho Falls facility with every other Friday off. You will report to the Procurement Quality Manager.
You will function as a Material Quality Engineer (MQE) to generally support the function of Procurement including catalog set-up, review and approval of requisitions, oversight, and other assignments in the INL Quality Assurance organization.
Responsibilities Include:
- Review and approve Quality Level 1, 2, and 3 Catalog ID initiations in Asset Suite by reviewing acquisition documentation for applicable quality requirements to ensure basic quality requirements are identified and incorporated.
- Impement quality assurance procedures, technical methods, control systems, and protocols to ensure quality standards are in place and product quality is achieved in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Help maintain and update the Master Material Catalog.
- Resolve discrepancies in material descriptions and ordering data with the requestor.
- Review and approve Purchase Orders and Contracts, ensuring lab-wide and facility-specific clauses are incorporated into procurement documents.
- Partner with customers to provide procurement strategies following procurement and engineering procedures.
- Conduct independent QA assessments, management assessments, and surveillances with peers and management to ensure that facility/program/project activities and related documentation maintain consistency.
- Participate in supplier evaluations and source inspections if requested.
- Provide technical expertise and assistance to program, project, facility management and personnel related to procurement quality and implementation issues.
- Work with line management on significant matters requiring coordination across organizations lines.
- Provide solutions to resolve facility, program, or project compliance issues.
- Provide input to subject matter experts and functional area managers to promote continuous improvement in INL Quality and related processes.
- Work with internal and external customers to determine that needs are met.
- Ensure quality program compliance through the review and concurrence of Quality affecting documentation.
- Maintain complete understanding and application of principles, concepts, and practices required for delivering quality techniques and tools.
- Maintain proficiency and required training and qualification for quality engineering responsibilities and participate in professional development activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Level 3: Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years relevant experience, Master’s and 2 years relevant experience OR 11 years relevant experience/education in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. (relevant experience may include conducting quality reviews of design and procurement documentation).
- Level 4: Bachelor’s and 9 years of relevant experience. Master’s and 6 years of relevant experience OR 15 years relevant experience/education in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree. (relevant experience may include conducting quality reviews of design and procurement documentation).
- Obtain BEA Quality Engineer certification within 3 months of hire.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Desired Experience:
- Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software system and/or verifiable catalog management experience.
- Knowledge of quality concepts and practices, be familiar with codes and standards such as ASTM, SAE, ASME NQA-1 and ISO-9001, and regulations as they apply to various types of projects or work activities.
Job Information:
- The pay range for this position is: Level 3: ($75,804 - $155,496) / Level 4: ( $91,008 - $186,588). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.

- TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
