GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
Reviews and approves dispositions for Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) delegated as design authority on the Material Review Board (MRB). The MRB Engineer solves complex engineering issues by utilizing engineering analysis methods and techniques related to the product line. Develops repair methods and justification of engineering dispositions for non-conformances of composite, metallic, pressurized, and non-pressurized aircraft structures. Works closely with other engineers and other functional departments to ensure schedule, systems, and part/process data integrity.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The duties and responsibilities listed below apply to Material Review Board Engineers.
- Perform design engineering analysis of discrepant parts manufactured in an aerospace manufacturing facility.
- Reviews, analyzes, and approves nonconformance dispositions as Design Authority.
- Works with other Manufacturing, Quality, and Engineering groups to specify appropriate disposition of product with technical capabilities, cost, and schedule in mind.
- Selects appropriate methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria to resolve complex engineering issues.
- Specifies repair methods based on requirements and standards.
- Works with customer released or KUAS released drawings and/or CAD models, engineering BOMs, and other engineering specifications to develop, implement and improve product manufacturability.
- Supports and participates in engineering and manufacturing reviews and communicates effectively as a technical contributor.
- Collaborates well with internal and external resources to resolve technical issues.
- Works with minimal supervision to complete tasks on time with desired results.
- Works on projects of advanced complexity that have significant program impact.
- Works with multi-disciplinary Integrated Product Team (IPT) and Program managers to ensure schedule and contractual integrity.
- A subject matter expert for materials and/or processes related to engineering and manufacturability of product.
- Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields in order to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company product.
- May mentor junior level engineers.
- Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- Requires BS degree in Engineering discipline (Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace, Electrical, etc.).
- 6 + years progressive/technical experience in related engineering discipline.
- May be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance at the appropriate level (requires U.S. Citizenship).
Preferred:
- Experience with composite manufacturing, i.e., lamination, machining, and bonding.
- Experience with composite repairs.
- Experience with metallic structures and coatings.
- Experience in lean manufacturing methods.
- Ability to perform hand calculations for structural analysis.
- CAD and/or FEM/FEA experience (Catia, Patran/Nastran, Hyperworks preferred).
WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Office and or manufacturing environment.
- Ability to stand and sit for long periods of time.
- Ability to perform repetitive motion (keyboarding, 10-key, phones).
- Frequent outside contact with customers and suppliers.
- May work extended hours or weekends and travel occasionally.
- May be required to lift up to 50 pounds in accordance with KUAS General Safety Training guidelines.
- Employee may generate, handle, manage, or work around hazardous materials and hazardous wastes.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- 0-25% May be required to support KUAS vendors or customers and between other KUAS locations.
