This MDS Coordinator position is for an RN with at least one year of current experience with the RAI process and MDS completion.
The position requires on-site work but no staffing on-call participation is required for the RAI Coordinators at the center and the work is in tandem with the additional full-time (FT) RAI Coordinators already in place.
- Utilizes the current RAI Manual as a resource for the RAI process and possesses a working knowledge of the Patient Driven Payment Model (PDPM).
- Schedules the Assessment Reference Dates (ARDs) for payment assessments in a manner that accurately captures each resident’s clinical characteristics for payment classification purposes and facilitates the timely completion of MDS sections, Care Area Assessments (CAAs) and participates in the development of comprehensive care plans.
- Assigns appropriate International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-10-CM) codes and collaborate with the IDT for clarification as needed.
- Encodes MDS 3.0 assessments based on source documentation in the medical record.
- Participates in meetings with the interdisciplinary team (IDT) and participates and documents care plan reviews.
- Communicates with members of the IDT as needed for coding clarification and reports any issues with timeliness to the Administrator.
- Transmits assessments in accordance with current regulations to obtain timely validation of MDS acceptance into the Internet Quality Improvement and Evaluation System (iQIES) data base.
- Addresses non-fatal errors and corrects any fatal errors immediately in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Facilitates the completion and updating of resident care plans with the IDT to reflect each resident’s current needs.
- Communicates with the IDT to identify residents in need of a Significant Change in Status assessment, based on criteria in the current RAI manual.
- Participates in resource utilization and/or triple check meetings prior to billing of claims associated with payment assessments.
- Attends or participates in continuing education related to the RAI process and related programs. Completes all assigned training and skills competency, as determined by the facility assessment and facility training plans.
- Possesses a strong working knowledge of Medicare and Managed Medicare reimbursement and participates in duties related to Additional Development Requests (ADRs).
- Performs administrative duties as assigned, including but not limited to QAPI activities and participation in department or committee meetings.
Previous experience with Point Click Care a plus.
