This is skilled mechanical equipment repair work involving overhaul and repair of gasoline and diesel powered automotive stock, heavy equipment and related components. The range of tasks include equipment service, tire repair, up fit vehicles with specialized equipment, modify and fabricate equipment and parts, weld broken items, obtain parts, maintain tools and keep the shop area in a clean and orderly condition and in compliance with all Company policies and regulatory requirements. Occasionally, employees may be expected to provide direction and training to other Kinder Morgan personnel assigned to assist in the repair and servicing of equipment or provide technical guidance to less experienced employees. Assignments are received in the form of work orders or oral and written instructions identifying the needed repair or service. Work is performed with considerable independence under the general guidance of the Maintenance Manager or Supervisor and is reviewed for quality and timeliness.
Perform skilled mechanical repair and overhaul work on various types of fleet equipment such as cranes, forklifts, automobiles, trucks (both light and heavy duty), gasoline and diesel engines, manlift, heavy equipment such as backhoes, front loaders, graders, street sweepers, and small equipment, along with all other types of powerdriven equipment in accordance with standard trade practices. • Repair, rebuild, or replace various types of hydraulic equipment such as pumps, hoses, cylinders, jacks, and other related parts and various types of transmissions, including automatic, manual and hydrostatic drive systems and their related components. • Perform skilled diagnostic and repair procedures on standard and electronic ignition systems, along with computerized fuel injection, diesel fuel systems and total vehicle electrical systems. • Perform preventative maintenance on gasoline and diesel power equipment including: engine oil changes, chassis lubrication, check and replenish other fluids as needed. Repair or replace as needed: lights, brakes and related parts, tires and tubes, chassis parts, mounted vehicle components (both interior and exterior), install and repair safety equipment, light bars, spots lights, emergency beacons, communication system and related vehicle wiring. • Weld and modify equipment, including fabrication of parts as needed. • Follow proper procedures for creating requisitions, obtaining repair service parts and supplies, producing and maintaining records of labor, parts and supplies used in work production. Demonstrate knowledge of parts buying and stocking. • Comply with all safety regulations and participate in an effective shop Safety Program. Demonstrate knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions of maintenance shop work. • Test and inspect completed work to assure proper performance and timely completion. • Comply with the Code of Conduct & Rules of Behavior outlined in the Kinder Morgan employee safety handbook. • Good powers of observation, initiative and problem solving with diagnostic skills are required. • May be exposed to conditions and hazards from obstacles, machinery and fumes associated with equipment repair work and shop environments. Must be able secure and maintain a Trabsportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC), a condition of employeement.
