MECHANIC - JOB DESCRIPTION
BASIC FUNCTION
Maintain and repair engines and equipment onboard vessels and barges as assigned and ensure they are suitable for their intended service.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform preventive and routine repair & maintenance on towboats and barge machinery/equipment ranging from oil changes to engine overhauls. Troubleshoot equipment/engine problems and provide on-site service and repair. Provide electrical system repair Provide non-routine maintenance onboard boats and barges as needed. Performs other duties as required. This position requires the ability to work an on-call schedule. May not take vacation during assigned on-call schedule without formal approval from the Port Engineer. This position may involve travel to multiple locations.
EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION
1-3 years of experience in repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting machinery and equipment. Experience in the marine industry or as a diesel technician preferred.
Knowledge of the following engines preferred: Caterpillar 3512B, Cummins, K19, K38, QSK50, QSK19.
Knowledge of electrical systems preferred.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and follow instruction.
Be able to obtain a Transportation Workers Identification Credential (TWIC)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Physical requirements of the job include climbing ladders and stairs, repetitive bending and stooping, lifting heavy marine equipment, and lifting objects from various levels ranging from 10-100 pounds. Ability to work outdoors in all elements during all seasons.
