Purpose/Summary
With supervision, the EMS Mechanical Design Engineer will design and develop electro-mechanical brake components and assemblies through all development phases from concept to ready-for-production, for a given vehicle application.

Education and/or Experience
BSME from a four-year college or university or an equivalent, with at least 2 years of automotive industry experience in the design of mechanical devices; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

In addition, the specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The work environment is mostly sedentary; however, there is occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and vibration and to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

With supervision, the EMS Mechanical Design Engineer will design and develop electro-mechanical brake components and assemblies through all development phases from concept to ready-for-production, for a given vehicle application.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Based on customer or internal system requirements, propose and lead concept mechanical design and detailed mechanical design, including design for manufacture and assembly
- Develop solid models and drawings for prototypes and concept designs
- Develop Technical Specification for electromechanical brake components and assemblies
- Perform analysis and/or simulation to predict component and assembly performance and durability per technical requirements
- Prepare DFMEA, FTA and any applicable technical documents related to assigned design project
- Work with system controls engineers to develop theoretical models for the assembly as necessary to predict performance
- Manage design changes through the release process
- Work with CAD designers in creation of solid models and detail drawings
- Work with associates in other departments such as CAD, CAE, Foundation Brake Engineering and Friction Material Engineering to confirm and refine necessary design aspects
- Prepare and check drawings, as well as associated release documents
- Work with and/or develop suppliers to procure prototypes for testing
- Work with system and mechanical testing team to develop test plan necessary for mechanical design development
- Prepare testing samples as necessary to support design verification test plan
- Develop countermeasures to meet technical requirements as necessary
- Prepare internal, supplier and customer presentations related to design development and performance status
- Perform other duties as assigned

- Apply mathematical and physics concepts to support product development
- Define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions
- Interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
- Present information and or analysis to peers or management
- Strong knowledge of mathematical concepts and calculations.
- Engineering experience in the design, detailing and analysis of mechanical components.
- CAD software experience (CATIA, Solidworks, PTC Creo, etc.).
- Knowledge of brake systems.
