Summary of Position
The Mechanical Design Engineer will plan, design, and coordinate integrate special tooling, fixturing and equipment into the process of selective plating and automation for both customers as well as internal applications.
What will you do?
- Analyze customer requirements and select suitable equipment to meet project requirements.
- Design systems or products such as workstations, robotics, and machines and controls, applying knowledge of engineering principles.
- Design and implement cost-effective equipment modifications to help improve safety and reliability.
- Utilizes 3D modeling software to generate component and assembly drawings.
- Support the qualification, testing, installation, training, and service functions of projects to include project scheduling and budget management.
- Interface with sales, customers and vendors to design and manage the manufacturing of tooling, fixturing and Sifco ASC auxiliary equipment.
- Converts legacy drawings from various sources into SolidWorks format.
- Adapts easily to changing priorities and exhibits determination in meeting goals and objectives while working independently or in a team environment.
- Perform support duties as needed to ensure department goals are met.
- Travel to customer and supplier sites as needed.
- May require working flexible hours and other duties as assigned.
What do we look for?
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology or similar technical degree.
- 3+ years related experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public. Ability to lead and facilitate effective meetings.
- Demonstrate Strong analytical, math and problem-solving skills. Precise and accurate in dealing with figures and details. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, fractions, conversions and proportions. Ability to analyze, evaluate and or produce data such as charts and graphs.
- Demonstrated advanced experience in 2D & 3D CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks or similar). Experience designing weldments, sheet metal and machined parts. Basic knowledge of PLC programming or electrical ladder/logic circuits preferred. Applies strong working knowledge of GD&T and attention to detail to ensure design accuracy,
- Electrochemistry and plating processes knowledge a plus. Strong mechanical aptitude demonstrated by past work experience and /or hobbies. Familiar with project management software.
- Must be a US Citizen (under ITAR rules) to be eligible
