Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer with expertise in battery thermal management systems specifically for battery electric locomotives. The successful candidate will lead cost reduction and material deflation projects, employing advanced methodologies to enhance efficiency and reduce costs within locomotive thermal management systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and execute cost reduction initiatives for battery thermal management systems in battery electric locomotives.
- Use cost-out approaches like Functional Analysis System Technique (FAST) and Should Cost Analysis to identify and drive cost reduction projects.
- Coordinate with Sourcing and Manufacturing teams to implement cost-out strategies on locomotives.
- Manage cost-out projects, ensuring adherence to the company's design review process.
- Select metallic and non-metallic materials for coolant piping, connections, and support structures.
- Develop Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and create Verification and Validation plans for projects.
- Conduct and support validation activities, ensuring successful implementation in labs.
- Lead design, analysis, validation, and production launch of cost-out projects.
- Collaborate with internal and external suppliers to address product change requests, quality concerns, and shop support.
- Support manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure high manufacturability, making necessary updates to drawings and models.
- Manage work assignments with moderate to high complexity, meeting short-term objectives and resolving issues.
- Prepare and present technical data to stakeholders.
- Document and communicate test and analysis results.
- Participate in teams assigned to specific organizational initiatives.
- Promote open dialogue and share information across teams.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect proprietary technology.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering with a focus on liquid-cooled thermal management systems.
- Proven experience in designing piping systems for engine cooling, power electronics cooling, or battery cooling systems.
- Strong knowledge of packaging requirements for high voltage equipment.
- Proficiency in heat transfer techniques, including conduction, natural convection, and forced convection.
- Experience with 3D CAD modeling tools.
- Proficiency in finite element simulation tools for mechanical loads, such as Ansys.
Skills:
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and leadership abilities.
- Capability to work in heavy industrial manufacturing and laboratory environments.
- Ability to set up instrumentation and test apparatus, and conduct validation testing on large industrial vehicles.
Working Conditions:
- Must be able to work in and around large pieces of ground transportation equipment within heavy industrial manufacturing settings.
- Requires the ability to work in a heavy industrial laboratory environment.
Compensation:
The pay rate range above is the base hourly pay range that Aditi Consulting reasonably expects to pay someone for this position (compensation may vary outside of this range depending on several factors, including but not limited to, a candidate’s qualifications, skills, competencies, experience, location and end client requirements).
