Mechanical Design Technician III
Location: Wilmington, NC
Duration: 10 months
Description:
Purpose Of Position:
Provide mechanical equipment designs and layouts which meet Client Machine Drafting Standards on CAD based formats. (AutoCAD® 2023, Inventor 2023)
Create new documentation to complete drawing packages, equipment build packages, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specs of production equipment.
Modify existing documentation to complete drawing packages, equipment build packages, machine part lists, illustrations, and machine specs of production equipment.
Assemble complete machine design packages from existing Plant files, checking drawings for accuracy and adding detail and assembly drawings where necessary.
Major Responsbilities:
Majority of time will be spent at a CAD station working on designs
Re-design mechanical components to reduce installation cost, solve equipment interferences, and correct inadequate designs.
Create, review, and update installation documentation and drawings as required.
Redline existing drawings and follow-up with drafting services or oversee draftsmen as required to resolve design issues.
Execute changes in design to solve equipment/process issues.
Take personal responsibility for all aspects of ensuring designs meet form, fit, and function goals established by internal customers and project manager.
Provide sketches or marked-up drawings as dictated by project and evolutionary equipment needs.
DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:
Education required:
AAS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering Technology, BS Mechanical Engineering (Equivalent work experience may be considered in rare circumstances.)
Experience required:
Minimum 5+ years of experience
Skill or work style preferred:

Ability to handle multiple priorities
Ability to work well with varied job requirements
Ability to work well in small teams is essential
Well organized
GD&T understanding and experience
Proficient with pneumatic and electrical schematics
Thorough understanding of mechanical drive trains, electrical and pneumatic actuators
Unique or special requirements:
Capable of generating a full drawing package for typical industrial equipment from assembly to detailed drawings.
Thorough understanding of mechanical equipment/systems to enable proper new designs or modifications to existing.
Routinely performs elementary design calculations; i.e., statics, hydraulics, power transmission, etc.
Equipment or software experience preferred:
Windows, MS Office suite including Power Point, Excel, Word, AutoCAD® 2023, Vault, Inventor 2023
Equipment familiarization preferred:
Personal Computers
Precision measurement devices such as Tape Measure, Calipers, Micrometers, etc.
Knowledge of operation or direct experience with machine shop and fabrication shop processes that aid design for efficient manufacture.
