Job DescriptionThe Precision Welding Solutions Division is seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Mechanical Designer. This position will provide engineering support on divisional projects, about 85% office Solidworks/CAD support, 15% prototyping and testing. Percentage split will vary throughout year based on projects.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Use SolidWorks to design or modify mechanical components with familiarity of: molded parts, sheet metal, weldments, machined components, extrusions, and forgings.
- Use PDM software.
- Experience dimensioning and tolerancing parts/assemblies is required. Analyze the effect of assembly tolerance stack-up.
- Prepare new or revised part/assembly models/drawings and illustrations.
- Prepare minor cost studies and provide innovative designs.
- Design and prepare models/drawings of manufacturing fixtures and engineering test instruments.
- Support the construction of prototypes by modifying existing components and procuring rapid prototyped parts.
- Assist with problem solving.
- Minimum Associates Degree in Design Drafting or Engineering Technology
- At least 2 years of relevant experience required
- Experience with various types of hand tools, machines, and fabrication tools
- Experience with SolidWorks & AutoCAD, MS Word & Excel
- Ability to understand, create, & sustain circuit diagrams
- Must be able to work effectively in a team environment, and as an individual contributor with minimal supervision
- Must be a highly motivated team player with a positive attitude, and able to prioritize tasks and utilize time effectively
- Understanding of DC circuits, PLC programing, and test data acquisition automation is a plus
