Summary/Objective
The Mechanical Engineer will innovate and optimize wood fastening equipment through the design documentation, and implementation of mechanical systems for wood fastening equipment. The ideal candidate will be responsible for design and validation of structures, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electro-mechanical systems for wood fastening machines.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities include designing mechanical systems for machine projects (structures, hydraulics, pneumatics, and electro-mechanical systems) and documenting and resolving project issues to meet cost, quality, and specifications. The role involves managing ECOs, implementing them in Viking's MRP system, and creating new product concepts. It also includes selecting components, adhering to design best practices, conducting design reviews, and problem-solving. Additional tasks include creating engineering prints, BOMs, and validation testing plans, supporting continuous improvement, providing training, and offering support to production, customer service, and sales.
Accountability
Key accountabilities include completing mechanical component and assembly designs, ensuring product quality and cost efficiency, managing ECO (Engineering Change Order) releases, and resolving issues with current products.
Required Skills and Experience
Required skills include a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 1-3 years of relevant experience, expertise in designing large machinery or capital equipment, and proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks for modeling, drawing creation, and PDM). Strong skills in Microsoft Office, troubleshooting, self-motivation, and being a team player with customer interaction experience are also essential.
Preferred Software Experience
Preferred software experience includes SolidWorks (or similar), MRP systems like Epicor Kinetic, and the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Publisher, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work/Location
This is a full-time exempt position. Schedule is standard business hours. The position is based in Viking's main office location.
Travel
This position will be expected to travel to customer sites 3-4 times per year.
