MECHANICAL ENGINEER
SHP (www.shp.com) is looking for an energetic, highly motivated Mechanical Engineer interested in developing highly efficient and sustainable design solutions in a cooperative architectural environment. This position offers the opportunity to work on projects of varying scales and complexity while supporting SHP's mission, joyfully enriching the lives of people through service and design. Building types primarily include Pre-K-12 education, higher education, multifamily housing, civic and commercial facilities.
The principal responsibilities of a Mechanical Engineer
Working with the Engineering Team to define and communicate sustainable design options for our project teams and clients including non-HVAC opportunities.
- Establishing energy goals for project designs and long term operation. Utilization of life-cycle cost analysis as needed.
- Load calculations and energy modeling and analyses to optimize overall building design (Trane Trace).
- Design of a variety of HVAC system types to include 4-pipe heating and cooling, central boiler and chiller plants, VAV air handling systems, geothermal systems, ice storage, variable refrigerant flow, chilled beams, etc.
- Preparation of construction and permit drawings and quality control and review of drawings and specifications.
- Must have strong communication and interpersonal skills and have the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with multiple deadlines.
- Must have the ability to communicate and collaborate with other team members, including other engineers, architects, and interior designers.
- Ability to oversee project design and production, including the supervision of more junior staff.
- Assisting with field work on facility assessments and energy audits.
Required (and Preferred) Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's Degree is required (Master's Degree, preferred) in Mechanical Engineering or Engineering Technology.
- PE license is required (flexibility to obtain within one year of employment, if candidate is otherwise a good fit.) Mutli-state license is a plus.
- Minimum 4 years of experience directly related to designing HVAC building systems is required.
- Strong computer skills using Revit and/or BIM is required.
- Previous experience with an architecture or engineering firm is required.
- Strong preference for candidates residing in the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky metropolitan region.
Compensation & Benefits
This is a full-time 40 hours/wk position, with a full suite of benefits, including paid vacation; paid holidays; paid sick/mental health days; medical, dental, vision and life insurance; health savings account with company contribution; 401(k) with company contribution; performance bonus; and other ancillary benefits.
