Job Description:
The Mechanical Engineer is responsible to design mechanical systems as required for all projects that are assigned to him/her by the manager of engineering. The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible to manage all design aspects of the project from conception to completion with minimal assistance from senior staff members. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible to draft the design on AutoCAD. This position will require some travelling and essentially will be required to be on the construction site, in some cases at least once a week. The Mechanical Engineer is expected to conduct multiple projects simultaneously and conduct project meetings with owners and contractors.
Key Responsibility Areas:
1. Develop, monitor and control Project scope, project schedule, budget and resources within the customers’established guidelines in order to meet or exceed the customers’expectation.
2. Obtain, diagnose and respond to specific customer needs that will enhance the quality of customers’service and satisfaction for a mutually beneficial relationship.
3. Initiate, complete and deliver all related project documentation, reports in order to maintain and achieve the established project goals.
4. Promote services to existing customer base while conducting services for them.
5. Identify and initiate key design issues and solutions in the beginning of projects.
Key Competency Areas
1. Technical Skills:
•Understands and proficient in the consulting engineering business, design and bid documents, change orders, meeting notes, codes, etc.
•Understands mechanical distribution system-Voltage, current, power and power factor, single vs. Three phase power distribution system on construction documents and in the field.
•Understands and capable of designing the following systems:
a. Heat gain and heat loss load analysis
b. Water system applications (hot, chilled, glycol)
c. Steam system applications
d. Refrigerant system applications
e. Air system applications (supply, return, exhaust, ventilation)
f. Automatic temperature control systems
g. Fire protections systems
h. Sanitary DWV piping systems
i. Domestic hot and cold water systems
j. Fuel oil piping systems
k. Equipment selection and analysis
•Understands Building Codes –NEC, BOCA, OBC, NFPA, ASHRAE, ASPE, etc.
•Proficient in Specification writing and method of procedure writing.
•Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, AutoCAD, MS project.
•Understands and capable of providing construction estimate.

•The rational approach to the processes involved in identifying and defining the project goals and problems, selecting and implementing alternative solutions strategies, the management of resources and contingencies and reducing performance deviations.
3. Influencing Capabilities:
•Demonstrated leadership in the attitudes and behaviors in the effective assessment management and adaptability required in handling situations (including decision making, behavior, conflict management, negotiations scenario’s etc.)
4. Planning:
•Competency in strategic and operational planning methods and procedures, the monitoring and measurement of targeted results, resource allocation and management practices.
5. Managerial:
•The basic set of managerial task management attributes involving directing, implementing, motivating and evaluation of general work environment (in the office and at the construction site) for the purpose of accomplishing specific, targeted objectives.
6. Communications:
•Good communications skills required to effectively conduct daily management of project personnel –contractors & owners.
