Requirements
- Bachelor-s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Ten (10) years- of professional Mechanical Engineering Experience in one or more of the follow areas:
- Design
- Development
- Production
- Testing of Electronic, Electro-Mechanical, and/or Hydro-Electronic Equipment
- Demonstrated experience performing environmental qualification testing to include one or more of the following:
- Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC) testing
- Vibration testing
- Mechanical shock testing
- Ingress protection testing
- Salt spray testing
- Sand and dust testing
- Temperature and humidity testing
- Experience designing and developing mechanical kit Technical Data Packages (TDPs)
- Experience developing and delivering complex technical presentations to high level program management and customers
- Experience overseeing installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment in support of DoD projects
- Possess a current Department of Defense (DoD) Secret security clearance
- Excellent analytical and research skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication
Desired Skills
- Master-s Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Ten (10) years- experience supporting DoD or Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Programs
- Thorough understanding of NSWC operations
- Demonstrated expertise with Computer Aided Design (CAD) software such as Inventor or Solid Works
- Demonstrated experience identifying, defining, and solving complex technical problems within project schedule and funding limitations
- Working knowledge of U.S. Navy drawing standards and have the ability to produce drawings that detail the connectivity between systems
- Demonstrated experience leading and supervising junior Mechanical Engineers
- Experience managing design requirements and leading teams throughout all phases of the engineering lifecycle
- Experience designing mechanical systems and knowledge of the manufacturing processes required
- Demonstrated experience with Risk Management to include conducting risk assessments and developing/implementing technical risk mitigation and contingency action plans
Description
- Prepares design specifications, analyses and recommendation for presentation and approval
- Performs technical responsibility for planning, organizing and conducting technical projects or phases of projects involving design and development of new or improved product and/or processes
- Investigates solution to product and/or process problems
- Consolidates results of mechanical design elements for assigned projects
- Coordinates the efforts of drafters/designers, engineering technical, and machine shop personnel as required by assigned projects
- Conducts independent technical investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications and requirements
- Designs and develops mechanical kit TDPs and TDPs for rackmount electronics equipment. The TDP shall include assembly details, overall dimensions and weight, mechanical and electrical interfaces, material types, list of components, assembly instructions, fabrication details, label plate details, power requirements, cooling requirements, and electrical schematics
- Performs environmental qualification testing to include Electromagnetic Interference/Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMI/EMC) testing, vibration testing, mechanical shock testing, ingress protection testing, salt spray testing, sand and dust testing, and temperature and humidity testing
- Assembles units, enclosures, or systems by reading, updating, or following mechanical drawings, industry methods, or assembly instructions
- Identifies, defines, and solves complex technical problems, which require a high level of ingenuity and innovativeness. Encourages optimum design within project schedule and funding limitations
- Develops and delivers complex technical presentations to high-level program management and customers. May lead major program and/or design reviews and major proposal activities
- Performs extensive research and complex analysis on major projects to enhance the technical and economic development of the product and/or service
- Provides functional and technical guidance to engineers, or other organizations. Typically provides leadership and technical direction for a project team
- Provides recommendations and assign work to technical drawing staff
