Mechanical Engineer Intern, Antenna Systems - Viasat, Inc.

What you'll do:

The mechanical team is responsible for the conceptualization, design, analysis, test, and manufacturability of antenna systems. The team collaborates with other engineers, designers, and operations personnel to deliver a comprehensive solution that meets the customer requirements. The day-to-day:

As a mechanical engineer intern, you will have the opportunity to work on the mechanical design of antenna systems used in a variety of applications and platforms worldwide. This role will expose you to ground systems antennas sized up to 24m in diameter as well as smaller mobile antennas installed on commercial and business jets. Each antenna application and platform yield unique environmental and technical challenges to solve. 

 

What you'll need:

Education Requirements: 

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a related field
• To be eligible for this position your final graduation date must fall between December 2025 and June 2026

Internship Dates: 

• You must be available for the full duration of the 12-13 week internship program. Note limited exceptions may be granted. Viasat offers two options based on semester and quarter academic calendars:
  • Cohort 1: May 20th, 2025 – August 15th, 2025
  • Cohort 2: June 17th, 2025 – September 12th, 2025 

 

Additional Requirements:

• Experience with standard industry CAD software
• Knowledge of ASME standard drafting practices
• US Citizenship required

What will help you on the job:

• Familiarity with Solidworks/SolidEdge CAD software
• Geometric Design & Tolerancing (GD&T) Knowledge
• Solid understanding of metal fabrication processes, especially machining, casting, welding, and sheet forming processes
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Previous Viasat internship experience

Salary range:$21 - $56 / hourly. For specific work locations within San Jose, the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, the base pay range for this role is $26 - $66/ hourly :At Viasat, we consider many factors when it comes to compensation, including the scope of the position as well as your background and experience. Base pay may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
