Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower pay band, NH-03 (GS-13 Equivalent), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer analyzing and developing the design, operation or maintenance of naval shipboard steam turbines or main reduction gear systems for submarines or surface ship power trains.
Examples may include, and are not limited to: 1) Main Reduction Gear systems including main reduction gears, clutches, couplings (flexible and noise attenuating), gear casings, combining gears, turning gears, mounting systems, journal and thrust bearings, main reduction gear lubrication system, dehumidifiers, and electrostatic precipitators; 2) Steam Turbines including rotors, stators, turbine casings, turbine blades, and throttle valves.

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Duties
- You will serve as the Engineering Manager for Main Reduction Gear systems and/or Steam Turbines for submarine and surface ship power trains.
- You will develop design requirements for submarines and surface ship power trains.
- You will support the power trains technical area in addressing design, operation, and maintenance questions for existing and new design submarine and surface ship power train equipment.
- You will obtain fleet feedback on power trains operation and maintenance and analyzing system performance.
- You will develop and exercise new procurement models to establish risk in new designs and changes to existing designs.
- You will maintain processes, specifications, standards, and tools supporting future capability and current readiness in power trains systems.
- You will support NAVSEA initiatives in Total Ownership Cost, Critical Safety Items, and Commonality for submarine and surface ship power trains systems.
- You will enforce technical standards for surface ship/submarine power trains.
- You will ensure that submarine and surface ship power trains systems meet cost, schedule, and performance requirements.
