Mechanical Engineering Project Designer for an Architecture Firm
Our client, a leading architecture firm, is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Mechanical Engineering Project Designer to join their team. This role involves planning and designing HVAC and plumbing systems for various structures, working closely with project managers, clients, and other engineering disciplines to ensure projects are completed efficiently, within budget, and meet the highest standards. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing building systems and a strong ability to collaborate effectively with all stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform engineering duties in planning and designing HVAC and plumbing systems for buildings and other structures.
- Assist in the various design elements to complete projects, including developing plans, specifications, and due diligence reports.
- Plan and coordinate detailed aspects of engineering work, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget.
- Collaborate closely with clients, officials, contractors, and other project team members to achieve successful project outcomes.
- Correct and update drawings, and assist the project team and other staff members as required.
- Support the Project Manager in coordinating project designs with other disciplines, including attending project meetings.
- Perform specific engineering studies and design analyses, and assist in establishing project budgets, cost estimates, and schedules.
- Review shop drawings, record changes, and communicate with suppliers, contractors, and client representatives as needed.
- Perform on-site inspections and heating and cooling load calculations using industry software.
- Select and schedule equipment with oversight by senior staff, and layout air and water side systems on drawings.
- Coordinate HVAC installations with other disciplines and prepare mechanical drawings and specifications.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
- 5-10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design, particularly in HVAC and plumbing systems.
- EIT or PE certification preferred.
- Strong proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, PowerPoint, MS Word, and MS Excel.
- Proficiency with HVAC load calculation software such as HAP and Trane Trace, and duct sizing software.
- Sound knowledge of the project development process, including construction of retail and commercial buildings.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and conscientious.
